How are you doing?? We have several new members and since we‘re all in the same age group I thought I’d re open discussion about peri menopause. As for me, I think I’m on the tail end of this. I haven’t had the intense hot flashes in a while, my mood swings have calmed down and I think my hormones are finding some peace and balance.

      How are you doing?

I am using my Isagenix/Dr. John Gray’s Women’s Balance Shake daily though and natural progesterone cream.  I have used both daily for the last 3 years and found they have helped me totally balance out the mood swings and other issues I was having due to hormone imbalance.

The thing that is really driving me crazy is the incredible acne I get just before and during my periods.  I NEVER had it as a teen so now it is driving me crazy.  It completely clears up afterward so I have a couple of weeks acne-free but during those other two weeks - pizza face!

I am about to start a search for a new doctor though.  My g.p. is fine but she really is not in tune with aging women’s bodies!  Funny...she is older than I am.

        • My hot flashes are coming back but not as intense as they were last year. I went 11 months without a period, thought I was finished with everything, the hot flashes subsided, I was feeling really good and almost back to normal. Over the past 2 weeks or so I’ve been getting hot flashes again, I had a period in April and it feels like the whole thing is starting over. This time I’m taking a different approach. Don’t know exactly what that will be yet, though.

        • I tried over the counter progesterone cream. I didn’t really have much luck with any type of hormone replacement. I think though it was just that I was not using the correct dosage. A lot of women have fine results with them.

We‘re in the middle of July now and, while my hot flashes were starting to come back last month, I’ve been “flash free” now for weeks. I’m crossing my fingers. I may be on the other side of the horrible symptoms.

        • I started peri when I was about 38. The hot flashes and mood swings were really bad for about 4 years. I am 47 now and I only spot once a year. (Knocks me out of saying I am menopausal). My mood isn’t quite as bad as it use to be but I stay depressed. Some days blue...some days anxious...but only irritable about 2 days a month. The night sweats are gone...but I have day sweats that last for around 5 mins. I think I have almost climbed to the top of my mountain and looking forward to sliding slowly off the other side. LOL. happyestaticheart

I’ll also leave the information on your profile.

It’s called, Before the Change by Anne Louise Gittleman

Sounds like your perimenopause and mine are very similar. But I remain hopeful that everything will balance out when it’s all over.

        • My mood swings are few and far between as are my hot flashes but they are worse right after my period, which I still get regularly but have missed like 3 times completely over the last 2 years. It has also changed ALOT, I was always on the lighter end of bleeding , now it is just a mess ( sorry for TMI). I know I am only in the beginning stages of this and am not really looking forward to the severities that can come with it but like anything else in life, if it doesnt killme it will make me stronger...LOL

        • Hi Jo46, the sugar is badddddddddddd for us in menopause it just enhances the hot flashes even more, but I totally understand your craving for the sugar I have a hard time letting it go as well, but lately I have been replacing the candy cravings for fruit or jello or something like that.

        • I’m not really sure where I am in the process of it all. My doctor reminds me that I need to have some test to find out. I hope that I am at least in the middle somewhere. I just don’t want to know for sure right now, I’m scared that my mind will play tricks on me.
My head stays so hot, almost soaked as I am just cleaning. When I take a cool shower, I can feel the warmth from my head rolling down my back.
I have always been on a 28 day cycle, right on time. Since October of last year I have ran 2/3 weeks late every other month.
I guess I should become a little more educated about the whole thing. heartheart

        • I believe I started peri when I was 42. I have very heavy bleeding. I took care of it and had an endometrial abulation (burned off lining of endometrium) and now I only have my period for one day (very light). I loved the procedure and I got my life back. Fast forward three years and now at 45, I having insomina and severe night time anxiety. I have had anxiety all my life and I have managed it with cognitive behavior therapy and deep breathing, but this is different. Right before I fall alseep, I start to get anxiety and I have to get up. Then I am wide awake and I cant get back to sleep. It has gotten so bad that went to a doc and he suggested Zoloft. I was so desperate that I started to take it 5 days ago.
