After the First World War in the 20-ies, liberated, hard working women wanted a more sophisticated modern style in fashion. The silhouette changed from wide lines and excessive material to a new androgenic style, avoiding many details, concentrating on the body and using straight lines. Actress and singer Marlene Dietrich enlivened this very elegant and powerful, yet feminine Garconne-style style back in the 40-ies.
And as all the styles do now and then... get ready for the comeback in the upcoming fall-winter 2008: the Garconne look!

The Garconne look still provides a perfect dress code for the working environment and formal meetings as well as, more legère, for an informal get- together. The Garconne-style was recently presented at different designers catwalk like Bill Blass, Karl Lagerfeld, Etro among others.

The full traditional Garconne-look consists of a complete suit, yet with a female touch; jacket, slim trousers and blouse. Colours are often black or grey, combined with white or dark blouses. Accessories like a tie (slim or a knotted shawl) and a mans head are often combined with this look. The finishing touch are smooth leather gloves, whether long sleeved and tight or more eccentric in more striking colours. To emphasize the feminine touch even more, wear stylish high heels, or combine the jacket with mini shorts or skirt.
