Supporters of the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” campaign have declared Friday National Wear Red Day. That’s the day men and women are encouraged to wear something red to show support for the Heart Association’s annual campaign to call attention to the risks of heart disease and stroke among women.

There will be a public Go Red For Women rally at Macy’s downtown Seattle store and at Bellevue Square in Bellevue from noon to 1 p.m. The public is invited to meet the “Go Red” ambassadors and pick up Red Dress pins, health information and other freebies. Macy’s plans to give out electronic gift cards, while supplies last, to women who will pledge to “go red.”

For more information about Go Red For Women, visit GoRedForWomen.org, or call 888-694-3278.

      Red tide

The Pacific Science Center’s towering arches at Seattle Center will not be the only landmark in town illuminated red to support the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign.

In February, Macy’s flagship store in downtown Seattle will also sport a red theme, as will Bellevue Square and KING 5’s studios.

Red lights will illuminate the Science Center’s 101-foot-tall arches starting Friday at dusk, and the glow is supposed to continue each night in February.

      Free CPR training

Registration opens Thursday for the local American Red Cross chapter’s free CPR training sessions, scheduled for March 10 at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center. Training is available to anyone who wants to learn adult CPR skills and receive American Red Cross Adult CPR certification. The event is part of Red Cross Month.

This year, the Red Cross will offer training in Spanish and sign language.

Participants can preregister for CPR Saturday online at www.seattleredcross.org or by calling 206-726-3534.
