        • I’ve had a career change..twice!

Many moons ago I was in restaurant management and loved the work...hated the hours.  It really wasn’t conducive to married life and the rest of the world.

Then I was in the corporate world working for an airline.  Loved my job there too - I’ll spare you the details here, if you‘re interested it’s all in my “about me” section.  It was a fabulous job with a lot of recognition but the corporate red-tape was awful and the stress was killing me.

So, now... I am a private consultant for airline pilots and a full-time network marketer with a fabulous candle company.  I love what I do now, and at risk of sounding cliche, I love helping others to achieve.  That is my true passion.

It’s always daunting when considering a career change, and tough to make the leap of faith, I am different in the fear department.  But I’m here to tell you that the best thing I ever did for my mental health, physical health, personal happiness and my marriage was to change my career!

          Cheers!
          Lori

        • Oh I have not been here in awhile, much to busy it seems, not complaining though:). I do not want to get back to a full time job, I was a diet therapist for the USAF, loved my job,but like Lori said the red-tape and the stress!!! and that was years ago, Today was the troops have to deal with,(In every area of the military) I will just continue to pray for them.
Then I taught middle school for about 5 years, burn out, love the children but the support system. I did not complain when I was there, that would have defeated the purpose, I watched and learned from some of the best educators, but one hand does not clap.
So for the past oh, 15 years I have created my own experiences, with several home businesses along the way. I enjoyed being a domestic goddess the most, but now the children are teenagers and will soon be flying away.
I love what I do now too. I have a spa business, and consider it my ministry, I get to be around wonderful people daily and nurture them, it is very gratifying. making it an investment financially is what I am working on now.

        • Congratulations!  Transition is a great place to be, because ALL choices are available to you. I would say the most important thing is to think of all the things you love to do, the people you like to surround yourself with, how you like to spend your time and of course, how much money you would like to make.  Create a vision of your perfect day and then write a list to describe every part of it.  This will help to hone what you are looking for and, more importantly, it will help to attract the perfect career or business to you.  Opportunities and people will present themselves and things will show up that you never could have planned.  The most important thing for you is clarity - knowing specifically what you want.

You might think of attending some local networking meetings too.  You will meet women who may have opportunities for you or they may know someone who can assist you.

          Wishing you all the best,

        • I’m in the process of changing my career now and I agree with Sue from powerfulyou.com. When I first realized I hated my job I had no idea what I wanted to do, which was a bit of a shame since I’d already quit said job. When it became clear hiding with the covers pulled over my head wasn’t going to be a valid career option I started visualizing and thinking about what I loved and what made my heart sing. I always wanted to write, but believed *I* could never be good enough. Taking the time to think about what really would make me happy just cleared all that doubt away and though I’m still in the fledgling stage I am so happy to be moving toward my dream.

I still visualize everyday and my life becomes clearer and clearer because of it but the most astonishing thing, for someone who has terrible mood swings, is that now somehow I’m happy for long periods of time. And the lows are not so low and they don’t last as long. I would still visualize everyday even if it weren’t leading me to where I wanted to be simply for benefits in how I feel.

        • I have not only had a career change but also a life change.  I was a market training manager for a major fast food company.  A job I loved but entailed many long, tiresome hours.  I left that job last year when ther was an accident at the hospital which left my husband in cardiac arrest which lead to brain damage, which eventually lead to his death a few months ago.  This life changing experience has taught me many lessons and has opened my eyes to what is truly important in our lives.
I joined a relationship marketing energy company earlier this year and have been able to replace my full time income within five months.  I work my business approximately 10-15 hours a week whemever I am out shopping or at church , running errands, etc.  I am not selling anything so I don’t have to bug people.  It is a simple business and very easy to do, everyone uses utilities, (electicity & gas) and has to pay their bills anyway so we all want to save money on something we have to pay.  I work with great folks and I really enjoy helping people save moeny and build a future at the same time.

I would be glad to share any info if anyone is interested.  I know that God sent this opportunity my way.  It has been a real blessing.

Good luck at whatever you decide to do.  Take care & God Bless!

        • So true Msdlcraig, ( please accepted my love for your loss) sometimes we get so caught up in what we want from the world ,we forget that it is the giving we get the blessing.
Like visualing what we want from our lives, it is important to “write it down to make it happen“. I also created a vision board years ago, and recently realized that the things on there have been mainfesting , maybe not in the large scale I had in mind , when I first created it , but it is enough for me to handle.
It looks like we all took to time to see what we all really wanted emotionally for our lives and created a place where we can be fulfilled and yet happy. I love my life and the space I have created for my family.
Many blessings to you all and have a Warmspirit day

        • Hello!

I am working toward a career change, and have been for about three years.  I’ve been a public school teacher for 22 years, both here and abroad, and most currently I’ve been working as a Reading Specialist part-time.

My first attempts at a career change were with a network marketing company—-fabulous skin care and health and wellness products at a great discount, but lots of frustration in trying to build a business with my warm market, which became quite cool after a while!

For the last year I’ve been a student of online marketing.  I’ve been learning a lot and within the last 2-3 months after lots of research I finally made a decision and joined a couple of online organizations where I’ve found tremendous training and support and a light at the end of what was previously a very long tunnel!

There’s been quite a bit of fear to overcome in this endeavor, due to many factors. Not the least of which is that my husband is not supportive.  In addition, it’s a very different trajectory for a public school teacher and the learning curve has been steep.  But it’s not insurmountable, and my passion and desire to change my life for the better keeps me going.

          Suz

        • You hang in there Suz, I walked away for teaching too, and I understand the warm market turning cold, but I love the products the company (it’s vision and mission) and have been using it more as a ministry than a business. I do have the support from my husband, and that does make the difference. I did have to  get something part-time, I work at the chapel, I love this job too.:)
Just hold on to that passion desire, I watch my children and that keeps me on track.
          many blessings.

        • Although I’ve worn many career hats, my biggest career change came when I left the software industry and returned to property management. It reduced my salary by about half; it reduced my stress level by about 85%.

The real bitch of figuring out that I hated what I was doing was having to leave paradise—we’d been living in St. Thomas, USVI for 18 months, on the company tab.  Unfortunately, it’s not much fun going to work when everyone else is going to the beach.

Now I’m a much happier, more productive person, both professionally and personally. The cut in pay was a bit hard to take, but I’ve already surpassed it and now I’m working with my husband, who is truly my favorite person in the world.

You have to feel right with whatever decision you make, even if you don’t intend it to be for the rest of your life. I’ve enjoyed my varied working life and actually feel I’ve had a richer experience than some of my more focused friends.

Dee Dee Shaw wrote Sep 29, 2008
        • My career change was a God ordained thing. I went to school to teach and work with children, but never finished after starting a family of our own. I worked to get hubby through school, and then came home to be a mom. Several years later the company I had worked for previously called me to ask if I wanted a job to which I vehemently said NO. After praying we decided it was an answer to prayer (so we could afford to build a house big enough for our ever growing family) so I went back to work in the networking end of the banking industry. Eventually I ended up in programming and working from home over 90% of the time. We loved the money but it ate into family time and the stress was incredible. We were trapped by the American lifestyle though so I felt stuck.
Some dear friends introduced us to some technology that really made sense. I had health problems, my whole family had health problems, and this seemed like the answer. I not only got my whole family on the products, I purchased them for my mom too (who had just almost lost her life due to health issues.) My friend suggested that we look at this as a business to which I exclaimed - I don’t have time to exhale, much less do a business on the side. I didn’t even pray about it. We started seeing results with the products immediately. I was amazed. Even though I didn’t pray, God gave me an answer to my stress, and frustration with my job. Within two weeks of getting started with these life changing products, my company changed their policy so that I couldn’t telecommute anymore. The office was 60 miles away from home... and we homeschooled. I turned in my resignation. And God has provided. I am so thankful to have my health back, and have the flexibility to incorporate my work into ‘life‘. There is no health challenge that can’t be improved, if you can restore healh to your cells you can restore health to your entire body. We also have a paraben free skin care system that I market alot to people who have or are fearful of having breast cancer. Breast cancer in particular has been directly linked to parabens. I really feel like my business is a ministry too. I have done so much research and learned so much about health and our unhealthy environment in the last 5 years. I educate and share with people simple things they can do (or avoid doing) to improve their health. I am also a weight managment coach. Toxins are stored in our fat cells, which is why people who are overweight are at a much higher risk for most all chronic health conditions and diseases. Nothing feels better to me than to help people reach their goals and regain their health.
It hasn’t been easy. I understand about warm markets getting cold. I have been investigating the online market, but I don’t want one time buyers. I really want to help people with their health and finance issues. It is hard to develop relationships with passerby purchasers. I’d love it if anyone has any input on that, or suggestions. I will say I have grown so much since starting this business. I am a much stronger, more determined person than I was several years ago. It takes tenacity to be successful in marketing! I am very fortunate to have Europe’s number one trainer and marketer on my team. He is teaching us for free what he normally charges clients $10k for. He has been exposed to all the companies out there during his trainings, and he picked ours because he (like me) thinks it is the best. He is the one who put together the video clip that is on my profile.
I look forward to getting to know you all, and hope this can be a mastermind group for us all.

          Sharing Hope,

          Dee Dee

        • Ladies, it is so beautiful to hear your stories and how you stepped out on faith to make that career change.  I would like to suggest a great way to network with business minded ladies: www.thejoyofconnecting.com

Each of you have some great businesses and I want to wish you the best for your future.

I want to share my story with you about my healthcare and cleansing businesses.

People can no longer afford healthcare and I am there to show you an affordable way to have benefits for you and your entire household: www.mybenefitsplus.com/gee

I want to share with you the 21 reasons to cleanse:

1.STRENGTHEN THE IMMUNE SYSTEM.  Cleansing impurities and flooding the body with high-grade essential nutrients supports the immune system.  Some studies indicate that a healthy dose of high grade, absorbable protein may strengthen your immune system by as much as 500%.
2.LOVE YOUR LIVER. A Clean, healthy liver supports metabolism and burns fat. A healthy liver promotes normal thyroid function and when the thyroid is healthy, your metabolism and energy levels escalate.
3.SUPPORT HEALTHY BRAIN CHEMISTRY. When your body can effectively absorb and digest fats and protein, it converts these nutrients into healthy brain chemicals. When your brain chemistry is aligned, you will make healthier food selections.
4.RESTORE ANTIOXIDANTS. Toxic compounds create "free radicals" that have the potential to damage cellular DNA. Antioxidants are substances that block free radical formation and destroy already formed free radicals.
5.FREE YOURSELF FROM STRESS. In Herbal medicine, adaptogens are used to help the body "adapt" to imbalances that stress the body externally or internally. Replenishing the body's needed adaptogens assists in the body's own self-regulatory systems, thus reducing stress.
6.MAXIMIZE ABSORPTION OF ESSENTIAL NUTRIENTS. Maximizing absorption of nutrients helps to fuel the internal body to support all major organ systems including the circulatory, musculoskeletal and neurological systems.
7.AID DIGESTION. Herbs such as suma, peppermint, fennel seed and licorice have been used in many cultures to support and aid in digestion. Peppermint is a nontoxic digestive remedy that can provide relief from gas, bloating, nausea and gastric upset. Peppermint has a calming effect on the smooth muscle of the intestinal tract and is felt to promote the flow of bile from the gallbladder into the small bowel, thus aiding in the digestion of fats.
8.REJUVENATE YOUR CELLS WITH IONIC MINERALS. Minerals are the key to enzyme activation in our digestive tract. When minerals are present, our intestines allow for ultimate absorption of vitamins and essential nutrients. Modern lifestyle has taken its toll on our digestive/elimination organs. Ionic (charged) minerals are the most easily absorbed by our body.
9.SUPPORT YOUR VITAL ORGANS. If your body is overwhelmed with impurities, gentle cleansing herbs and essential nutrients can allow it to eliminate impurities through the liver (the major detoxifying organ of the body), colon, urinary tract, sweat glands, skin pores and the lymphatic system much more effectively.
10.LOSE WEIGHT AND FEEL GREAT. Studies have shown that fat cells can provide the perfect environment for holding onto impurities. This is our body’s natural mechanism for protecting itself from dangerous, possibly deadly impurities. Cleansing aids in the body’s ability to flush fat and increase metabolism.
11.ELIMINATE UNHEALTHY CRAVINGS. The healthy body will crave healthy things. The unhealthy body will crave unhealthy things. Cleansing and replenishing allows the internal body to create an environment that craves good, nutritious food.
12.ENHANCE CELLULAR COMMUNICATION. Our cells want two things: good nutrients and a clean environment in which to communicate. Cleansing provides our cells with both.
13.BUILD MUSCLE. Cleansing and then replenishing with natural organic whey protein provides the body with essential amino acids that are the building blocks for the development of lean, dense muscle.
14.RESTORE NORMAL SUGAR LEVELS. Abnormal sugar levels have been linked to serious health challenges and are often the result of weight gain. Effective weight loss and fueling of the body can aid in the body’s ability to restore normal sugar levels.
15.BEAUTIFY THE SKIN. Our skin is the largest organ of our body. Cleansing and replenishing rejuvenates our skin, making us appear younger and more supple.
16.CREATE ABUNDANT ENERGY. Better sleep cycles may be achieved through cleansing to provide the body with stamina, energy and mental clarity throughout the waking hours.
17.BALANCE YOUR HORMONAL SYSTEM. Cleansing and replenishing can balance hormone levels and lead to a feeling of constant well-being, increased stamina and increased sexual desire.
18.SLOW THE EFFECTS OF AGING. Toxins and nutritional deficiency can lead to premature aging on an internal and external level. Cleansing and replenishing allows our cells the ability to attack the affects of aging head on. A younger appearance along with incredible energy is often the result!
19.RENEWED DESIRE TO EXERCISE. Often times when you cleanse and replenish the body with high-grade essential nutrients you have a renewed sense to start an exercise program. The health benefits of exercise are endless.
20.ENHANCE ELIMINATION. Refined, processed, low fiber foods, animal fats, lack of exercise, dehydration and an ever-increasing level of stress all contribute to an irritable bowel and to sluggish elimination from the intestinal tract. Cellular cleansing and replenishing with fiber rich nutrients allows for better colonic elimination of impurities and is essential in the prevention of intestinal disorders.
21.ULTIMATE QUALITY OF LIFE!! Cleansing and refueling the body is a revolutionary approach to optimal health and weight management. “Traditional Diets” are often imbalanced and neither strengthens the immune system nor rid the body of toxins. Imbalanced diets rob the body of essential nutrients and only offer temporary results, Why not embrace a program that gives your body the right nutrients, the right balance and the ability to once and for all chronically defend itself against the battle of the bulge?
