So now this basketball team, which has earned a place in a tournament in Arizona, and has been working for months to raise money for the trip is told that the trip has been cancelled because the school administration has an issue with Arizona’s politics.

I have an issue with this! Since when does highschool sports mix with politics from another state? Who is being punished here? Certainly not Arizona, but the girls from this basketball team!!!

The school administration should be ashamed.

        • If I were a parent of one of those girls...I would be livid!  Those girls just want to play basketball and the audacity of adults using kids in the political arena should be a punishable offense in itself.

Yes.....the administration SHOULD be ashamed...and should BUTT OUT!!

        • One of the mothers I believe had it pegged when she said that this political decision was done under the guise of personal safety for the kids. The school district doesn’t have the courage to come right out and say that. Shameful they‘re hiding behind “personal safety issues.”

These kids just want to play sports. This has tainted their long overdue victory and ability to go further in their division. Kids should never be put in the middle of political squabbles between adults - or states.

I’d really love to hear our members from Arizona weigh in on this issue. I think that the details of this law have become very convoluted in the reporting of it. If I’m being stopped for something that I’m doing illegally - such as a traffic stop if I run a red light - the police officer is going to ask me for my ID. If I can’t produce my ID, I’m going to be brought down to the police station. But I’d still like to hear from our Arizona members on this issue.

        • Somehow this just doesn’t seem right! How can they do this to the girls? And really is there a threat to their safety?

        • Absolutely absurd.

Few days ago the San Diego School Board has unanimously passed a resolution blasting Arizona’s illegal immigration law.

The resolution not only condemns the law, but demands it be repealed.

Seriously, SD School Board? what do they have to do with Arizona and their immigration laws? Why can’t they just concentrate on the problems within their school district and their own state.

I was pissed off the whole day, that is exactly why I refuse to watch the news.

        • Using kids as political pawns is despicable!

Doesn’t this high school have something more serious it ought to be concerned about?  Indeed, every school does!

And now the City of Austin, TX is doing something similar, banning all travel to AZ by city officials.  But don’t think Texans as a whole agree with this!  We are worried that more illegal people will flock here now that AZ is actually trying to address the problem.  Austin is just weird!  (In fact, it’s city motto is “Keep Austin weird.“)
