    • This is Maya! She is the baby that helped me w/ the heart I thought would never feel the way it had before.
My story goes back to 2005, I had just gotten out of the hospital for having a kidney stone removed, again. I was happy to be home & I knew my girl- Margie, can’t bring myself to post her pic. cause I know I’ll start crying again, would be happy to see me. She was a 13yo Fiest(squirrel dog) & was old but she had been my companion for 13 years when no one else was here & guarded me & our family & property w/ all her love.
Well, I’d laid down b/c of pain & the med. made me sleep deeply. When I was woken up by my husband I thought I was dreaming & later wished it had been a dream. It seems that during my nap, Margie chased a squirrel out to the road. We live in the country but have logging trucks & other semi’s barreling by. She knew not to go into the road, but..
My loving hubby woke me up & said” Baby, I have bad news for you. Don’t move. It’s Margie!” My heart sunk, they said that by the time they got to her, they could tell that the truck that hit her didn’t stop & she didn’t feel any pain when “it” happened. They buried her before they woke me up. My son, god love him, saved her collar. Her rabies tag was bent over almost like you fold a piece of paper. I cried & was “glad” I wasn’t awake when it happened. I miss/ missed her so much & that’s when my son said I needed to get another dog. Oh NO!!! Too soon. Well, I had a Dr. Appt. he took me to & obviously I’d talked about Margie so much that afterwards he drove straight to a local Humane Society/Shelter. He made me get out & look a different dogs. I rejected everyone. I wasn’t ready. Then they showed me this tiny baby girl, a terrier mix. She was crying & it was feeding time so they asked me if I’d like to help by feeding her. That did it. She took to me & my heart began to heal. She’ll never be my Margie but now I have my Maya.

        • I know how it hurts to lose a beloved pet. The pain cuts deep. And, yet, when we allow another pet to come into our lives it’s not to replace the unreplaceable love of the former pet but to give love to a precious animal without a family.

        • I went through the exact same thing.  We had a Rott/Chow mix named Brownie who my son rescued out of a ditch when she was a puppy.  She was the most loving, loyal dog.  All she wanted in life was to be loved and to love.  My husband opened our gate and she ran out.  She ran into the alley behind our house and a kid shot her with a pellet gun.  She made it back to our house and died in our driveway with my husband holding her.  I was at work when this happened.  My husband and our next door neighbor buried her before I got home.  When I got home my husband told me what had happened and my heart was broken.  I didn’t want another dog EVER!  But a month later we went to the Humane Society to just “look“.  There was a 2 month old brindle pit bull puppy in a pen with about twenty other puppies and they were stepping on her and knocking her down.  She caught me eye and I knew I had to have her.  She is two years old now and our baby. Love her so!
