Many people in the US have at least 1 relative in their past who came as an immigrant. At different points in time, it was either more difficult or easier to get into the country.

Do you think now the laws are too strict or not strict enough?

Should ILLEGAL immigrants be entitled to the same benefits and rights as citizens?

Should violent criminals who are her illegally be jailed or deported?

What are your thoughts about immigration?

        • This is a tough question.

In my humble opinion: If I go to live in another country, I will take the steps to become a citizen. If a different language is spoken, I will learn that language, as it is not fair for them to accomodate me in my language. To want to live in another country to better your life or whatever the reason may be...wouldn’t you want to becom a citizen. I believe that any citizen of a country should be given all benefits.

But, then someone comes in to a hospital, is illegal, do you turn them away? There is no easy answer. There are so many ‘what ifs‘...

This issue is far from ever being resolved.

        • I work for a criminal attorney, and I see alot of illegal immigrants come through who are in no way trying and have no intention of trying to become US citizens.  The problem is that when the time comes to show up in court, they disappear, get another social security number, move to another city, and resume life as it was.  I think that if an imigrant can’t prove his status at the time of his/her arrest, they should be deported, and let them go through the red tape to prove their status so they can return to the US.  Our jail system is too crowded as it is.  And if anyone can give me an explination as to why illegal immigrants should receive any benefits that citizens do, maybe I’ll change my opinion of it.  But why should someone who doesn’t respect our rules and laws be permited to draw any government support, or benefits?  When I get to retirement age, will there be anything left?  I’m sure my family had immigrants, because I’m part German and Irish.  I do believe that when my ancestors immigrated here, the population was not as it is today, the criminal statistics weren’t as they are today, nor were there as many people trying to immigrate.  I know they were many many, but multiply that by a few thousand, and you probably have today’s numbers.

I say no benefits to anyone who hasn’t become a US citizen.  If they don’t want to be an american, then they shouldn’t want american benefits.  Duh, who would turn that down?  I also think that to receive welfare and foodstamps, and medicaid, a person should be regulated with random drug testing, that they have to pay for, and also be given 1 year from the date of qualifying to find employment.  If they do not become employed within that year, and if they fail a drug test within that year, then the benefits are suspended pending employment status and clean drug screens for a period of time.  That wouldn’t include children under the age of 15.  All children should be taken care of regardless of how sorry or lazy the parents are.  One more thing...if a household who receives those benefits have more than 2 children, child care should be provided or an allowance for child care, so they can’t use that as an excuse not to work.

        • Teeky, your absolutely right.  Our great nation is made up of immigrants and in fact all of us are except the native Indians, who were here before us and practically (Genocided)

Our ancestors came for a better world and a better life, except of course for the slaves that were forced to come here but you know.. isnt great to be an American, no matter how we got here ?

I live in Texas and this is a big issue here.  As illegal immigrants are sneaking in and homeland security wants boarder control because also enemies can sneak in too, and we also have illegal alien criminals sneaking in and killing and stealing, but .. having said that most are hard working people from all lands not just Mexico, England, Africa, Europe, Australia, Etc.. that just want a chance to be an American, and live free and make it on thier own.

So what is the solution ?  The statue of Liberty says come to American to be free, yet we have closed the doors on many countries and we are steadly being invaded by mostly Mexico, we dont have the balance of nations immigrating from all over as we did.

So we have sooo many illegal aliens here now and I think that we should offer them a chance to register to become citizens and examine each applicant, criminals will still slip through cracks but will be deported if criminals or arrested when caught, but we need to document these people.. somehow.. they are here.

I dont think we should give them a free pass but I think that we must do something.

And secure our boarders Please ?  Deportation of the innocent is not fair at this point.. but criminals yes.

        • This is an emotional issue, but illegals often pay ‘coyotes’ much more than the application fee.  It has to have a price because “freedom isn’t free” on any level, just ask our military folks.  The system will never be completely fair, we just have to make it the best we can.

        • Okay...I’m ready to jump into this one..
I agree that there should be a better, cheaper way for illegal immigrants to obtain a Green Card and eventually Citizenship.
Yes the ones who are criminals should be sent back as opposed to jailing them here.
I think that if there were more help out there for illegal immigrants:
          a) It would help the economy because it puts more people to work legally and they would be paying into the taxes and SS.
          b) It would help to stop the influx of illegal immigrants because they would come here knowing there was a possible way for them to stay legally.
I’m sure they don’t like being in the U.S illegally anymore than Americans want them here illegally.
There could be a win/win resolution.

That’s my .25..My daughter just gave me my weekly payment..lol

        • The sad thing is that because we border Mexico, that is becoming the majority of our population, Afrricans, Europeons, Australians, Irish, India, China, Vensuala, etc.. they dont boarder our country and have number one a difficult time getting to USA and once here must wait the application system or must leave.. they come documented.

What Im saying is we should immigrate on a equal level to all countries, not to just one country Mexico.

I have an Idea  ???  We could invade Mexico !!! Take over and problem solved !!!

          Just a thought !!  ha
