Recently I was on my way to the mall when all of a sudden it occured to me I had completely passed the mall and had friven 5 miles past the Mall and was driving on the freeway headed into the city...I had zoned out completely while on the way to the Mall. Once I snapped out of my daydream I had feelings of disbelief, and fear at the thought of not being 100% present while driving a car. These zoned out daydream breaks that I experience are happening a somewhat regular basis these days and I’ve wondered why but I believe I know why and the culprit is Menopause. Anyone else experiencing feeling like a zombie? What I thought we’d chat about are solutions to these problems as well as other solutions to dealing with “The change” and symptoms associated with it... Let’s Chat GirlFriends...

        • Well, I’ve been known to zone out like that for most of my life.  I remember specificly the first time I did it I was about 19.

But, I do notice it’s more frequent these days.  I think you‘re right in saying menopause or perimenopause is the culprit.  Last summer it was happening to me at work a lot.  I notice being over tired makes it worse.

And I’m so tired of my mom and a couple other ladies telling me I’m “too young” to be going thru all that!

        • Well I am glad that nothing bad happened while the zoning was going on. I too have been known to go to the zone.
Is it because of our age? I don’t know. I do know that at my last check up all my tests were normal. I do know that the Dr said because I am going 21-25 days between periods that is the beginning of the end. But that could still be awhile. So in the meantime I am just considered crazy. And I’m ok with that cuz crazy let’s you get away with a lot!

        • Funny you should mention that Shopgirl! Just the other day driving home I passed my turn-off and didn’t realize it until after 2 major intersections when I came to a red light and finally looked up at the street sign to see where I was! It was a wierd feeling and I couldn’t even remember getting to that point. Then worse, I couldn’t remember what I was thinking about to zone myself out like that! So I know your feeling, I’ve done that sort of thing more often than I care to admit.

Even worse is I’ve noticed my “forgetfullness” has been more frequent, and I hate that feeling even more. But the funny thing is, sometimes I’ll wake up in the middle of the night remembering what it is I forgot! Bazaar!

Must be the start of “the change“. Ugh!

        • Unfortunately it is happening to me more and more frequently...more so when I am driving, but it happens at home too...like I go down to put a specific load of laundry in and it is already in the washer and I am like...Oh yeah...I did that already..duh! There is other stuff to but....I know what you are talking about. I always chalk it up to having such a full plate all the time...stress, maybe it occurs more during my more hormonal times of the month. I will have to try and figure that out.

        • Yeah, the forgetfulness is scaring the hell out of me!  The thing is, I keep hoping my kids don’t notice.  (Oh, my gosh, I’m going to cry!)  And then I notice, that I’m not 24-hour POLICEMOM like I used to be.  I may slack off for a few days, then I’m back with a vengeance!!  This is NOT cool!

21-day periods??  DAY-UM!  My husband would move out!

          No.  Not cool at all.

        • I’ve zoned out a few times but it happens every so often. The last time I did that, I wasn’t too sure if I pass a red light or not and that scared me SO BAD..I had my unwanted visitor this pass week(lasting about 4 days), and I usally cramp lightly, but this time it hit me hard on the very 1st day and I was cramping so badd that it wouldn’t hurt as bad when I laid on my stomach,I take advil or motrim for the cramps, but not even that helped. I called my mom and she said that sinces I’m in my 40’s it’s going to get worst and it might be menopause..My poor mom she apologize for having to tell me this..

Not looking forward to it at all!!!

        • I haven’t had a period in 6 months; but “Guess Who” decided to visit today?!
Last night I put salad dressing on my pasta by mistake.
Look up stress in the dictionary, and you’ll see my picture.
Thanks to Cindy, I now know I may be having blood sugar issues.
          Where was I?....
          Oh, yeah...
Those of you who are doing the 21-day-calendar dance, make sure you‘re not anemic. I took iron for 2 years.
Just shoot me now...I’ve got the Super Ultra Plus pads and tampons ready for ya! I just pictured little white strings hanging out of my head and my chest ohhhh

Are we suppose to wait for the Dr to mention meno drugs or do we ask?

        • Vikki,
DON‘T wait for your doctor...ALWAYS ask any questions you have. If your doctor doesn’t answer patiently and thoroughly, find a new one!

        • In the Zone!  No completely out in space!  I have been told I have driven somewhere and done whatever I was supposed to and have NO memory of ever doing this.  Found out after 5 years it’s the sleeping pill I was taking at the time. It scared me so bad especially when I started having no just 1 or 2 episodes a month, but a week or so.  I went back to dr. and told him WE need to find something else.  Thankfully, WE have.  My god I was out on the interstate, I could’ve killed someone!

I feel for you gals that it happens to all the time, sounds scary.
