...I ship items internationally alot.  However, I have to email clients/customers and asks where they are located so that I can find the best shipping prices.  Instead of being able to post the shipping cost right on the site.  Which can be a pain.

USPS has been the most competitive with pricing, but they no longer ship by boats for local international.  So, all the rates are based total air shipment.  It was cheaper when they had the boats for local international.  I just shipped a glass bowl to New Zealand (6 lbs) for $49.50.  Needless to say, that ate-up some of the profit.

UPS - forget it, it’s like double what USPS charge for certain shipments.  DHL, no better!

I need a reliable company with competitive rates!

      Any suggestions?  HELP!

If not, I will always rely on good ‘ole U.S. Postal Service!

        • Living in Hawaii, we have horrible shipping rates. When I buy supplies and equipment I pay sometimes as much for shipping as I pay for the item itself.

Right now I use priority mail and include frozen gel packs to ship my chocolates. That has been effective and cost saving. But, if I join the Hawaii Food Manufacturers Assoc. I will get a 40% discount on FedEx shipping as a member. A friend of mine is a flower grower and she belongs to an association that does the same discount.

Maybe there’s a professional association for your business that would give you further options.

        • That is definitely the solution, Chocolatier!  And, you are so right.  I have spent more on the shipping than what I paid for in materials and time.

Thanks for the info.  Back to my researching and massive pots of coffee!  :)
