      or both or neither??

I just had this conversation with my nine year old. She insists that God is a man and I asked her how she can tell...

      What do you think?

We may all believe different things, so let’s keep it nice!

        • Well...I’m going to go along with your daughter...lol.  In the Bible it does refer to God as He or Him...and I might be wrong here...somebody correct me...if I am...but I think during the creation of the universe and man...he made man in the likeness of Him...referring to God.  Oh please tell me if I’m wrong...but...that is what I’m thinking.

Most of the time...people do refer to God as a male.  I guess it doesn’t matter but I’m sticking to it.  I prefer to think that way.

        • I have always thought of God as a him vs a her. I would love it to be a woman but it was a woman who birthed Jesus so.....

I’m sure I think of Him as a him because of my more or less traditional upbringing. Was raised Catholic but always went to church with my friends who were all Baptists.

I would think that most traditional Christians do think of Him as him!

        • estatic I love nice discussions! Ok so I want to throw a thought out if I may. While I believe hes male. But my wonder is think of the times. Males were dominant and in biblical times all thoughts were male. And who put the words on paper? Males.
This is just a thought for I love an out of the box discussion.I teach my children he was male, I refer and believe he was male. But What if? Would it make a difference? Would it change the lessons we are to learn and live by?
If ive offended anyone Im sorry it wasnt my intension I truely love a great discussionheart

        • First of all... When God created MAN..... She was only kidding!!  All kidding aside, take a look at the fact that when the bible was put on paper (Yes, by MEN) women were considered un clean and not necessarily first class citizens! Our religion(christianity) is a culmanation of more than one religion. If you study the main ones the torah, koran and bible tie together with only slight variations. Mohammad,Jesus etc. and then each faiths beliefs veer apart. God is referred to as a spirit. Humans put a gender to God, I beleive, because women had no worth in the middle east at that time and STILL don’t. Ergo the male concept. Woman’s roll was different in the jewish faith and might have evolved from there to where it is now. Just my thoughts. Love these types of discussions.Connie

        • estatic ladies if I may I was talking to my son who is 25 and I asked him this question and his answer surprised me. First he said he thinks of God as neither man or women but an enity of aboundig love. When I Asked him about being created in the image of God he said it could also mean God’s unconditional love, forgiveness, wisdom and peace.
I thought that answer was pretty good for a 25 yr old . Its a good point.heart

        • Interesting discussion Ladies :)

I believe that God is ALL in ALL, not male or female, for God is a spirit not a human form.  We (men & women) were created in his image, right?

If you think about the Father heart of God, you think in masculine terms.  Protector, leader, provider, etc.

If you think of the Mother heart of God, you think in what we consider as feminine terms.  Caregiver, Nurturer, teacher, etc.  Not to say that God is a woman, but that He is ALL.

We (men & women), I believe, are endowed with the different parts of “His” personality and spirit.  If you think of his magnificence and complexity, how then could one “human” form embody ALL that He is?

Just my thoughts :)  Have a great day!!!happy
