My family is not Vegetarian so I do cook a lot of meals with the meat seperate.  What do you do?  What do you do about Thanksgiving?  and other holidays?

        • Very funny that your mom will cook chicken for her dog!  My husband will deep fry the turkey each year so that helps me out a lot.

        • I am the only vegetarian in the family, which make meal time more work. One of my dogs has a lot of food allergies, so I make my own dog food. I have been tempted  to write my own food blog titled “The Vegetarian and the Carnivore“. A lot of recipes I make have a lot flexibility  that the basic marinade can be used with meat or tofu/tempeh.

        • You should definitely start a blog, Max0125!  Great name for it as well.  There is a woman who decided to use her crockpot to make all her meals for a year and blogged about each recipe.  She was able to turn it into a cookbook “Make it easy, cook it slow“.  Her blog is The year of Slow Cooking.  You never know where it will take you!  I would read it!  Let me know if you start it!

        • Greengirl, thanks for the encouragement. I must admit that when I do cook with meat sometimes it really grosses me out. The other issue that I have entountered is what I call “cooking blind“. After a few complaints after disaterous results,  I started to make the sauce first and trying it before I introduce the meat rather than waiting until the end or not tasting it at all. I really do not like even putting sauce that has been cooking with the meat in my mouth.

Lately, I have been experimenting with tempeh. It is wonderful and I don’t know why I never tried it before.

        • Oh I hear you Max0125 - the feel of meat grosses me out!  I have always felt that way but now it’s even worse.  My husband makes the hamburgers.  If I’m making him chicken, I will touch it if I absolutely have to but can’t stand the feel.

Angelcart, my oldest daughter never could eat meat.  She really started to have a conscience about it in 5th grade!  I was so surprised that she was feeling that way when she was only 11!  She is a vegan now and has been for 6 years.  So we come up with some great dishes together.

My husband would agree with you on the filet mignon.  He eats a lot of chicken too.  I don’t mind making it for him as long as I don’t have to touch it - ewww!  LOL!

        • I became a vegetarian when my son was born 20 years ago. I do prepare chicken and seafood dishes and I keep encouraging him to not chicken at least once a week. He'll eventually come around to my side. estatic

        • I stopped eating all meat except fish about a year ago.  It has been surprisingly easy and I have discovered so many new foods that I wouldn’t have tried before.  My husband and children think I am so weird and crazy though.  I have tried to get them to understand why I stopped eating meat, and I even made them go with me to the movie, “Food, Inc.”  I still have to cook meat for them and then something different for myself.  Traveling and trying to find a quick food stop where I can find anything to eat is a real challenge.  I know they all wish I wasn’t so “Weird!”
