      Happy Labor Day!

Do you feel like Labor Day is the end of something? Or maybe the beginning of something? Do you get sad or excited?

        • I think of Labor day as the beginning of fall.  Where I used to live, it usually coincided with the first fall frost, so it was always the beginning of fall as far as the garden.

        • Usually Labor Day is a day of labor for me.  I use it for cleaning up the yard, etc.

My daughter Ace and I spent the morning trimming trees and hauling them away as well as other accumulated junk.  We also went and picked a gallon or so of wild plums for making jelly.  My arms are a mass of scratches and I think I sprained my pinkie finger.

        • Yes, I think of Labor Day as the “unofficial” end of summer.  The kids go back to school, or in my case, are already back in school.

I am just taking it easy today.  I go back to work tomorrow.

        • I’ve always seen it as a day for families to spend time together before the school year begins. Although these days so many schools start up in August. Our public schools here have been in session for over a month already.

        • Well our kids went back to school the middle of August...so it’s not a sign of kids getting back to school.  Fall is still a month or so away down here.  WE are still having 90-100 degrees...so it’s not a sign of fall either.  I think for me the only thing it represents is that ...you don’t wear white after Labor Day...LOL

An old southern tradition....I still follow!!  When I say you don’t wear white...you don’t wear white jeans, white pants, white shoes, or carry a white purse.  You can do so after Easter.

My Labor Day was spent sleeping off and on....it was a day of rest!

        • It literally meant Labor day for me. LOL, packing my truck and getting ready for the movers later this morning. But it usally means a dramatic drop in tourists, campers, boater and traffic on the highway.

        • Our son celebrated his 24th birthday yesterday...he and his dad went to see the Conan movie and I put together a great meal for him and his favorite cheesecake for dessert...so in essence, 24 years ago, it was Labor for both him and me!happy

        • As a child Labor Day was the last weekend before school began. Living in Georgia school begins in August, so now Labor Day means the last summer holiday. It signals transition into fall and the need to plan for fall. A time of new beginnings and new focus.
