Is there anyone else besides me who, after 30 or 40 years, is finally loving her hair?  I listened to family, friends, boyfriends, ex’s, everybody except me, about how my hair should look.  I tried to satisfy everyone except me.  I finally decided to do what I knew was best for me, and not only have I never been happier, my hair has never been healthier.  I am not arrogant about it, just proud and finally happy.

Doesn’t matter if your hair is long or short, thick or thin, straight, curly or kinky, love it!  It’s yours, it’s your crown, and after all is said and done, you‘re the one who has to live with it and take care of it!

Sound off! Let me hear from other “satisfied” women...

        • I agree...maybe a reflection on how our age mellows us as to what is really important vs not important. I do my hair for me only...no fad...no trend....no man or woman. I think it looks as good as it can...and I am not making it do something it doesn’t want to do :)

        • I love my hair and change the style every month. Sometimes braids or a full weave or a half weave. Sometimes twisties. It all depends on my mood and the season. Usually in the summer I wear braids or twisties.

        • I also have decided to wear my hair short and I am loving it. I have done everything to my hair from dreads to braids but also seem to return to the short style.

Psalmist, your hair looks beautiful!! Wear it with pride.

        • I too am loving my hair after many years of deciding what’s best for me!!  I choose to keep my hair at least shoulder length because I’m a letter carrier, and working outside does a number on my hair.  I’m washing my hair at least twice a week, which is often considered too much for women of color.  But because of my working out in the elements, washing it often is definitely needed.

I keep my hair shoulder length hair for lazy purposes!!  On days when the weather is less than favorable, I can pull it back in a ponytail or wrap it under my hat.  I’ve tried the short hair once before, and it was wayyyyy more work than I desired.  Short hair, to me, has to be trained especially at the nape of the neck.  And also, to me, short hair requires more frequent salon visits.  The only time I visit the salon now is when I desire my ends to be clipped, which is about every 3 months.  I can perm, wash and condition my own hair.
I do see plenty of short hair styles that make me look twice, but for right now, shoulder length is what I’m rocking!!  And from time to time, I do give my hair a break by having it braided in individuals, especially during the summer months.  And just a couple of weeks ago, I had some tracks sewn in, never did that before!!  I got lots of compliments and hubby loved it too!!  First pic is my hair, second pic is a weave.

        • tracy, for me that’s when i finally knew it was time to commit to the locs.  i used to change my hair as often as the wind changed direction. when i finally made the decision, i realized this is the way i really wanted it to look for the rest of my life (in fact, i mentioned to someone a couple of weeks ago that I can’t wait until it’s salt and peppered all the way through. they looked at me like i was nuts, but then again, it’s not their hairestatic).  take that, all of the people who said i could never commit to anything (hee, hee, hee)! to all my fearfully and wonderfully made sisters, i love you all, thanks for the affirmation, and teeky3, don’t know what you looked like with long hair, but sis, you are seriously rockin’ the short cut!

        • this is how we get stuck on the computer, because of all the wonderful comments and support...michelle, honey, your hair is gorgeous!  i remember those days too, the perming, the blow-drying, the frequent salon visits (‘cause i wasn’t trying to do it myself, my hair was toooo thick).  and yes, the ponytail was definitely the reason i kept it long, even now.  i had it cut a few months ago to just below shoulder length just to even it all out and it doesn’t ponytail as neatly as it used to, but i still wouldn’t trade it for anything...happy

        • Thanks Tracy and Ingrid.  That was the first time I had it done and I really liked it!!  She did my whole head!  My hair was braided and she sewed the tracks in.  I just took it down a couple of days ago so I could do a touch up, and I noticed it had grown some.  I kept my scalp oiled with Dr. Miracles Gro Oil.  I plan on getting it done again real soon cause it really gives my hair a break from the curlers. Folks be asking, why you get a weave when your hair is already long?  It was for a change, and I loved it! Can’t wait to do it again!
