Ladies who deal with and believe in Holistic Medication..Not that I don't believe in the usefulness of Natural Medicine..But I am asking that you please do not give me a lecture on the subject and how it pertains to me..I have been there done that..And I am past the stage where I want to go in that direction. If you read my posts in my one group you will see that I am studding in that area..As well as others..Thank you for respecting my request..Nothing personal.. =)  Kat
My Friends...I am sorry I have not been on much lately..I would like to share something with all of you. If any of you can offer advice or a personal experience please feel free to share. I am beside myself with pain physically and mentally..I have been seeing a doctor for my IBS..Thais condition has plagued me since I was 18 yrs old. I had a test done about 3 weeks ago. Yesterday I had a consultation with a Bowel Specialist told me that my choices are to either continue on the course I am until my bowels completely stop working and get a colostomy bag eventually or just get it over with and do it now..I am very depressed and can hardly type this for the tears..I am not ready to deal with this..Having been in Nursing I know all about it and what to expect...Now I have no insurance and have been granted by the State of Kentucky all my procedures done at the local hospital will be covered by the state. Unfortunately the hospital here is what the locals call a band aid station..It is a brand new hospital and it offers a lot for simple things..But no specialist..All the Specialist Doctors work out of University of Kentucky...or.. One of the bigger hospitals in Lexington.. The Doctor I saw yesterday told me all he could do besides the procedure is send me to see a Gastroenterologist..Well I truly feel he is just passing me along because I have no Insurance..I am also inclined to believe he only offered me the choice he did because of no insurance..It would be the quickest way to get the job done..Whereas if I had Insurance he may have offered other options..I just don't know..Also I am having to pay a percentage of the Dr.'s fees for these consults.. They run anywhere from 100.00 up to and above 400.00 a pop...As for me I am not ready for it..I couldn't even look at Jerry last night..I was so embarrassed and I felt so much shame..I thought about how much this would change my life and his..And our relationship..I know me and sex is a really big thing in my life..I couldn't even imagine having this thing hanging there while we are making love..Jerry and I are really into foreplay we put a lot into pleasing each other..I don't mean to sound shallow...but I just would not be able to look at myself or feel sexy again..Yesterday when the Doctor gave me the news..I just broke down and started crying..I said I just wanted to die..I already an dealing with a spinal cord problem and disc problem..Fibromyalgia and what I feel is a pile of other issues.. I know I need to put this in God's hands and remember He never gives us more than we can endure.. I am just not sure I can handle this Ladies...Much Love and Friendship..Kat

        • Kat,

I feel like I came late to the “party” so to speak.

What are you diagnosised with and for how long have you had it?

I realize you don’t have insurance but the options they are giving you seem to be severe.  I have IBS, complicated by psoriatic arthritis and fibromialgia.

I obviously do not have it as severely as you do.  I am just curious as I would like to do some research on my end.  I live in CT in very close proximity to Yale medical center.  I would love to see what they have going on in this area.

My prayers are with you.  Don’t give in yet.

        • Hey Kat...I have endometriosis and some years back it started affecting my bowels...They totally shut down on me and I had to spend 5 days in the hospital...When I first arrived  I was told I needed emergency surgery and after that I’d have to wear a colostomy bag, maybe permanently. I was devastated, so I understand fully what you are going thru...Family and friends held a praying vigil at my bedside, because being a new mum, I couldn’t see myself living with a bag like that...Well, friend let me tell you, prayer worked in my case and my bowel obstruction corrected itself. I’m not totally out of the woods, I still get pretty constipated and I do still have my endo flare ups...I have no clue as to what will happen in the future, if this will repeat itself...but I live my life as normal as I can..

All I can do is offer you my prayers...Be careful with who you trust your surgery to as I have heard some horror stories when it comes to the bowel tract and surgeries...Try and do some more research, everyday there is some new advances when it comes to medicine..And although I am one to advocate Natural medicine, I understand it’s not for everything or everyone...Saying a special prayer for you...I know how painful IBS can be...BE STRONG!!!...Keep your head up...Talk to Jerry, he’ll understand more than you think...He loves you...right???

          (((hugs)))

I say research, research, research. Knowledge is power. I pray you will be healed.

          Sincerely,

          Dana

        • AWWWWW Ladies thank you so much for the information and ideas..And it brought tears to my eyes to feel the love you all have sent to me..Thank you for your prayers as well..I did research it this weekend and I am not giving in to a bag..Not just yet..Most of what I have read told me there are many options..But because my bowels do not work on their own any more..I will have to take laxatives...but I have also found that limiting my Beef intake and hard to digest foods..I when I did have to go it was less painful..I have been eating things like Cream Of Wheat, Soups, Chicken, Refried Beans..Hardly any cheese =(  I love my cheese..LOL.. I am just trying to be kind to my bowels..I know I will have to get some kind of surgery but you are right what that Dr. offered me as an answer was Way to Radical.. I will post all my research and findings in a group thing..I would love it if any of you who suffer or know someone who does..Please share your findings as well.. Much Love and BIG (((HUGS)))  Kat

        • Kat,

Have you tried MiraLAX?  I have no movement without it.  I have been taking it for a year now and it makes life so much easier.  You can take up to twice a day; once works for me.

I tried to go off it a month ago just to see if my bowels would regulate themselves.  No such luck within a week I was sick from no movement in that area, curled up in bed.

Back on I went and within 24hrs I was feeling much better.  It may help in conjunction with your “be nice” diet.

Keepin’ my fingers crossed for you.

          Cindy

        • Hi Kat:  I am really late in offering you my prayers.  If I might add, please don’t give up on natural medicines, it works, what most people don’t realize is that this medicine takes at least 3 to 6 months before it actually works and when your problem is an advanced as yours it, it will not work.

I am not saying that you should try natural again on your IBS, but those medicines are to be explored upon at the first sign of any illness.

May God continue to bless you and I hope that you are doing much better.

        • I have IBS too...have had it all my life but didn’t know when I was a kid - they didn’t have a name for it then.
Cutting gluten, lactose & caffeine out of my diet has literally worked wonders for me. I can actually go places now and not have to plot out where all the bathrooms are along the way!
I literally feel your pain and hope you too can find the right solution for your IBS.   I’m sending you a psychic hug!

        • Kat, I am late and I am sending you lots of prayers.  I know this is not a good time to joke around and you know me... so here it comes: I was once in that position and my friend just said to me directly, also Loud and Clear “You are so really full of craps!”  Hope this give you a giggle and a little smile.  You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

        • Kat....research...and pray....God will take care of you....but you have to turn it ALL over to him...not just a little.  All of it....

Look into the medical universities....sometimes they offer studies and programs and a lot of times know the latest technologies or procedures.

We have MCG (Medical College of GA) right here in my area.  They do sooooo much research there that you just never know what is on the brink of the horizon.

Get a 2nd opinon...3rd opinion....or however many it takes...and when you go to them...take notes.  Document everything.

I don’t pretend to know anything of your suffering. What I will do is continue to lift you up in prayer and be here for you and encourage you to stick to your “be nice” diet, because I believe that will work wonders at comforting you.

Remember we love you and you can call on us anytime.

          much love
