      Where are you??

It’s amazing to me the lack of appropriate priority setting of the present administration. He had all the time in the world for the “beer summit,” the multiple vacations during important ceremonies, and pickup golf or basketball games... but the “leader of the free world” is decidedly absent NOW, really??

      Let’s recap, shall we?

Last Friday, we saw a natural disaster of epic proportions. Major earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear crisis (which continues) and our “leader” (and I intentionally use quotes here) gives a pre-canned “oh, we feel sorry for you” speech and then goes out to play golf. HOW ABOUT GETTING TO WORK???

This, coupled with the fact that the middle east is falling to pieces and our “leader” is focusing on women’s history month and obesity. Really? I’m a woman. I don’t care at all about women’s history month right now. HOW ABOUT GETTING TO WORK???

The subsequent fallout from these and other crises is a stock market plummet and the abandon of any hopes of a financial recovery. And the president is busy picking his teams for March madness. Really?? HOW ABOUT GETTING TO WORK???

Gas prices are soaring and the president makes a silly speech about what the whitehouse is doing, most of which is only partial truth or didn’t occur during the president’s time in office. In the meantime, he has made little to no move forward on lifting the ban on drilling. Really?? HOW ABOUT GETTING TO WORK???

It's time to stop voting "present" Mr. President and start making some real decisions.

        • Do you think it’s possible that Mr President is keeping his actions to a low profile? Do you possibly think that they are upfront on what they are doing?

If we look back to the tapes of Mr Bush and WHEN he was informed of 9/11 he appeared to have no reaction. I think this caused him a lot of grief back then.

I agree that we the people are in panic mode and we look to our leader(s) for strength, inspiration, hope and guidance. And when it’s not obvious to us we think NOTHING is happening.

I went to whitehouse.gov to see what was up (after all their reporting is probably as accurate as all the news people) and there was nothing on his schedule for the remainder of this week.

There was this update tho from the press seceretary aout Japan.

Seriously, Obama seems to act like Cool Joe when it comes to crisis.  He gives this big speech then you don’t hear a real plan of action.  All you get is Blah Blah Blah.  And the man doesn’t keep his promises either.  Where is the transparency of government that we were all promised?

        • I mean no disrespect here to his supporters, but Obama has been terribly disappointing as a leader.  Leaders don’t give the impression nothing is happening.  They may not share all the details of what is going on behind the scenes, but they DO NOT allow their people to feel they‘re left wondering aimlessly.

“...we the people are in panic mode and we look to our leader(s) for strength, inspiration, hope and guidance. And when it's not obvious to us we think NOTHING is happening.”  Exactly the point!  HE SHOULD NOT SIT IDLY BY, giving that impression!

OMG!!  It’s terribly unfair to suggest Pres Bush did not react when told of the 911 attacks, and then compare that to Obama’s recent reactions to the turmoil occurring today.  Obama has never been put on camera at the exact same instant he was informed of a tragedy.

Furthermore, within hours of the attack, Pres Bush was on the airwaves attempting to “lead” us through the crisis.  He took a stand, and, I dare say, no one was confused about how determined he was to restore our security and safety.  Thank goodness he took a hard stance immediately, and did not wait to read a poll to determine what he would do.

Obama took office with NO governmental executive leadership experience.  And, boy, it sure shows now!

At the very least, he should be stepping up to intervene in the fiscal budget debacle.  Hasn’t it become obvious that the two parties are not going to agree?  That’s his cue—he should be speaking up to influence compromise.

When he spoke out for civility following the Arizona shootings, his approval ratings shot up.  Doesn’t that suggest that Americans want him to speak up and lead?  Mr. President, speak up!

But, I suppose that would be risky.  Taking a stand on an issue could hurt his re-election chances.  It’s probably best he keep us Americans in the dark so we’ll blindly vote for him again, not knowing exactly who he is or what he stands for.  Some of us might not agree with him if we knew.

It might take about $300 billion dollars to rebuild Japan.  United States is $3 trillion dollars in debt.  And we just keep pissing more money in debt everyday.

As for the Mid East.... YES we need to not be involved!

And when we do send aid to one place do we budget that in? Or do we cut from somewhere else? Or do we borrow? Raise taxes? What’s the RIGHT answer?

I know if my hot water tank busts and I didn’t budget in my expenses for that we eat mac n cheez all month. I don’t borrow from my neighbor I live within my budget!

I am reaching my limit of faith in our government. I’m 62 years old and I’ve witnessed a lot of ups and downs financially for this country. I’ve seen some buffos elected to office in my state and into the senate, the house of representatives, the legislature, the oval office. My memory of how embarassed I was for our country with several presidents making themself such public objects of ridicule instead of respected here and by other countries, will not be forgotten.

I have to agree that this country continuing to aid other countries needs to be changed for the sake of us and the younger generations that inherit the debt.

Perhaps not the ones who need to learn a lesson or 2 b/c they brought it upon themselves, but take care of your own before you go further into the red rescuing the rest of the planet.
When and WHY did we become responsible for every cleanup there is? Dont get me wrong, I feel horrible for those people- all of them regardless of which disaster.

        • Thanks for the clarity, Vikki.  Good to make the distinction.  Keeping cool with children all around was exactly what he should have done.  Why anybody would criticize him for that is beyond me.

I think you‘re right.  We should not be borrowing anymore.  Maybe our gov’t should maintain reserve funds for the inevitable rainy days.  (We require financial institutions to do it.)  But we‘re a long, long way from having that option.

We have got to cut spending, period.  There’s no other choice unless we are willing to ruin our country.  No more higher taxes, no more borrowing.  We’ve already done too much of both.

If states are required to balance their budgets, why isn’t that policy good for the fed gov’t too?  As it is now, we’ve tremendously overspent at the federal level, and it will take decades to pay back what we already owe.  To continue this irresponsible fiscal practice will ruin us.  It’s already predicted that our future generations will not enjoy the benefits of being American as we have.  Given the inability of many to find employment after earning a college degree, I’d say it’s already happening.

Do we really want to do this to our children?  Make the hard choices, cut spending, and lead.  That’s what we pay our elected officials to do.  It’s time for courage and leadership!

When I saw the public announcement from Obama and his wife speaking about domestic violence I was a little bewildered.  Not saying domestic violence is not a serious issue but is that really what our president needs to be doing a public announcement on?  I think there are other people who can make these service announcements and the president needs to be dealing with things like the economy, the stuff going on in the middle east and the crisis in Japan...oh and let’s not forget the gas prices! It seems to me he can only deal with things that are on a smaller scale.  He watches lots of basketball and plays it too.  And...plays his share of golf.  Not saying he doesn’t deserve some down time...but he sure does get a lot! I’m sure all those Americans who have lost their jobs, their homes....would like to have some down time.....a little recreation.....how nice! I better stop...I’m getting cranked up.....

        • Well there have been alot of good points and I agree with most but what I don’t see is the HOW we are to be able to do some of the things we need.
Like if our “way to many cooks in the kitchen” can’t settle on a budget? HOW do we stay within a budget we don’t have?
We are so far into debt that it isn’t possible to stop borrowing because Peter has to pay Paul and with no budget we can’t start an economic action saving plan.
And all the tax payees ( that be us we the people that no one is listening to) are squeezing our budgets tighter to pay for those very important taxes that are needed to protect and serve , defend , feed , house , fuel our leaders very important golf and mini trips. Now ladies you never know knocking that little ball in that little hole while not messing the green MIGHT just inspire our leader to hit a hole in one or at least par something for his citizens he is suppose to be a leader of.

My point is the top can’t change unless the bottom , the foundation changes. There are to many cooks in the kitchen and with that many voices and back scratching nothing gets done. But the run around. No budget???? WTH??? Nothing can run without a budget. House holds, individuals, small business, corporations but apparently it’s ok for our government to run without one.

So, here is my HOW: nothing runs without a budget. The leader states that all are to be back in Washington mandatory and they have 72 hours to agree on said budget or for everyday after each one is fined. No matter the side. And our leader sits in too.
Once a budget is in place then you can go to the steps of saving.

As for Foriegn aide.... We can’t stop but that doesn’t mean we help all but again with what budget with what money. And what ever they report think higher as for our debt to credit ratio.

Our president is a babe playing in a political arena. Until he puts on his big boy pants and takes a hard unpopular stance with the other political men and women he will continue chasing his shadow.
And it’s up to “we the people ” in our own communtitees, our own states to make our voted in people listen first and then go up till every office listens to what we are choosing for our nation.

Unfortunately because it’s gone so far raising taxes will be a reality. It’s sorta like we keep our eyes closed to long on spending when all was good and now we also have to pay for those mistakes. It’s a horrible painful cycle. But it’s time.
It’s time for put economic growth to grow!!! We each have to decide how much we are willing to suffer for our childrens future and theirs .
” we the people” have accountability also.

I am not a supporter and feared what would happen with someone with no experience to hold one of the most powerful offices in the world. What blind sheep.

As for Japan?? What do you expect from a babe? But at least he should have been smarter to surround himself with people that MAKE you look good and competent .

It has to be a fine. A federal fine. If they are in session technically they are working so by federal law they must get paid. Same in California it is being amended to read as a fine. A fine and a very steep one
Double the loss of what they make per day and fine them that per day and they will work
