Seriously is this really necessary? You can slay a mob with that gun.

Obama's Gatling Gun Equipped escort car

Cool video of that gun in action on that site.

And here is the video with that car behind him in the Inauguration

      Talk about security.

          And thanks Teeky.

        • Your point is the gun could kill many people..well I think that they are all thinking about protecting OUR President..If someone comes to attack them..then what if the car were not armed???Is his life any less valuable?...Again we really don’t know what Bush’s car was armed with or do we?

Also..Yes I saw you deleted your statement while I was typing my one..It seems as though you have a chip because of all the fanfare to do with OUR New President...If I am wrong..then.....

But I will say this and leave it alone..If you are looking for a fight, I’m not the one..I’m on a high and happy about my New President...and no one will break that spirit...I’m just noticing a tone in the comments made about his tux and her dress and I’m rather put off is all...

        • I do not think that his car is over equppied at all.

Even before he became the pres, he had more death threats than any other pres.

I hate to be so blunt but, he is the 1st african-american president ever. The racism in this Country is still high and I fully believe he will need more security than any other pres before him. And, he should have it.

It is obvious as teeky stated in her post. I remember reading about that and the people areested for almost getting their plan out.

So in answer to the actual question, yes i do believe this kind of gun equipped car is necessary!

          Barack on!!

        • Sisters, let us please remember the importance of this day.  This country has taken an incredible leap forward and as an Black woman growing up in the deep south and remembering the question of “what do you want to be when you grow up?“, I listened to some of my peers answer, “I want to be president“, which was followed by a silence, after which our teacher, quietly but encouragingly tried to persude the student the try and think of something else that they might like to be.  This imbedded the idea that no matter what, as a black person, you were never going to be president.  I am proud to say today that they were wrong.  I watched the Inauguration with my children and I was moved and proud.  One of the most hurtful things in my life was when I worked at Rich’s as a young woman and an older White custmer came in and almost fell and as I moved to help her, she screamed at me, “get your dirty hands off me N word.“,  So I am proud today, and the election and swearing in of this president takes away some of the pain.

        • Your hubby is very smart.  All presidents have an escort car outfitted with heavy artillery.  It’s just that every thing that this particular president does will be called into question.  This is the way it always is with the first person to do something.  This is the first African American president, so everything he does will be examined over and over again.  From the car, to the cost of the inauguration to the parade, to his dancing at the balls.  However, we must remember that this is a time of hope, and without hope there is no vision for the future.  As we all have our problems, I like many of you am going through a really tough time right now, but when I look into the eyes of my children, I have hope.  Hope for the future, hope for something better, hope for real and true happiness.  I have never met any of you, but you have given me more than you know in my short time here and I love you all and I pray for  greater days ahead for all of you.

        • I have to agree with MzTracy - the racism in this country is truly unbelievable and it’s sad.  And as Soulful40 pointed out, not only is his safety an issue, so is the safety of Michelle and their daughters.  The Obamas seem like the type of people that will just walk down the street and I feel bad that they will never have that freedom again so I am willing to bet that it wasn’t the President’s idea to have the mega gun on board... but personally, I’m glad he and the first family are protected to that degree.

There are a lot of strong comments going back and forth - not only on this site but on others as well and it’s especially weird to see the comments about things being overdone and people turning this into a party... well, after 8 long years of Bush, I could have been elected to office and it would be reason for celebration.  Just look at the state of our economy.  Bush ran this country completely into the ground so yes, celebrate on, America. The end of an “error” is here.

Unfortunately, some people are not happy and see no reason to celebrate.  They don’t care that our new president represents change and hopefully our quick return to greatness - they see a black man in office and are infuriated - some to the point of wanting him dead. And sadly, some people are naive and oblivious to it.  In the last 24 hours I have seen/heard/read a great deal of bias and am pretty shocked that the degree of racism in America is still pretty high.  Just when you think things are getting closer to equal, and that people are becoming more accepting of our American melting pot, you realize there is more resistance out there than you thought.

Sorry to digress... just thinking out loud.  And please know my thoughts are not directed to anyone in particular - no disrespect intended...  just thinking.  Have a great day.

        • Soulful some get it and some don’t.  My company had an event and we had tissues there because it was an emotional time.  One caucasian lady said “what is this for?” with a scowl on her face and then said “oh I guess I will take one“...the reality of the day was in our private event on the parade route there were an equal amount of nationalities that it did touch and those that did not cry understood why those that did.

I guess for me, you may not understand everything or agree with something, but respecting whatever it is removes a lot of misconstruments.

Mztracy and Monicadan thank you for your words.
