Sleep is a part of our lives that is so very vital to or health. Yet sleep evades so many of us..I am included in this group as well..We miss out on sleep for various reasons, Illness, Stress, Excitement...Whatever the reason it is not only robbing us of energy but longevity as well..We need adequate sleep to renew our brains and bodies. Lack of sleep depletes our immune systems and the healing, repair, and replenishing our muscles, joints, and brains need. Let's face it Ladies our Fast Pace, Multitasking, High Stress Jobs are a way of life in these days and times..And with all the medical knowledge and medicines there are out there we are still burning the candle at both ends..A lot of what our well meaning physicians prescribe for us does not cure the problem of "Insomnia" Their drugs are like little band-aids on a really BIG boo boo..Our lives as women have always been very taxing..Even in the days when "All we did was clean house and raise children" Like that was a breeze!!! There was much more to that job description...The difference between then and now is we are Mothers Wives Friends Teachers, Partners, Sounding Boards, Gophers, Bankers, Taxies, Coaches, The list goes on and on.. that's still just being a "House Wife" in the year 2008..Least we forget there are so many of us out there who do all of the above and add a career on top of that..Everything from a Waitress to a CEO of a corporation..When we go to bed these days our minds do not shut down...Days past our daily schedules included sleep time..A luxury we do not plan very much time for these days...

There are sleep aids out there that are not as addicting as those prescribed by a physician..Here is a little FYI I learned in nursing..If you look on the active ingredients on a box of OT sleep aids you will find it is the same ingredient as is in Benadryl..And it is the same as in motion sickness OT drugs..Diphenhydramine HCI 25mg..We even gave it to patients for sleep when the Dr. had not ordered something to help patients sleep...It is a saf drug and from best I can tell it is not habit forming..If you want to go the natural rout..Try Melatonin or Valerian Root..Hawthorne Leaf is also good..Chamomile is another that can induce sleep.. But my favorite is still Lavender.. I also use Eucalyptus..I have a small dish on my head board of my bed and I keep fresh Eucalyptus crushed up in it..You can add Lavender to it as well..I did grow my own lavender this past summer it smells amazing..Jerry has a hard time falling to sleep at night also and these have helped him also..My trouble falling asleep is with my Fibromyalgia it keeps me teanse but smelling the lavender and Eucalyptus helps me drift off..Try asking your partner to give you a massage with the lavender mixed with baby oil...then dab a drop or two on your temples, or pulse points...I will be following this up tomorrow with a few suggestions for making your bedroom a place of relaxation  and distress... Hope these help ..  Kat

        • Hey, Cat. I love lavender too. Lately I’ve been having trouble sleeping throught night and find myself rattling around the house at 3:00 in the morning. I think it’s hormonal. Anything you know of to help stay asleep?

          Cynthia

        • I like a warm bath, then Melatonin, if I want a deeper sleep.  Or am having trouble.

        • Greeneyed lady..Yes Melatonin is excellent. Along with a hot bath with a splash of Lavender Ummmmm... I had a real problem falling asleep and staying asleep..I got the falling asleep part down pat...but the staying asleep I am still working on myself..I have found that I do better if I do not have any thing sweet or with caffeine in it at least an hour or two before bed..Something else I have found very helpful is to not eat anything other than say a piece of fruit or a few cheese crackers.. Something to keep the hunger monkey's off my back.. After 6pm...I normally get to bed about 9:30pm and I am up at 2:55am 6 days a week.. I get up with Jerry and see him off to work..So I need to stay asleep once I get there.. I will keep you up to date when I get more info.. I do welcome any and all input..I am just starting this course... Oh Yeah almost forgot..My Journal this is new for me to..Every day I write in my journal about how I slept and if I wake up what was on my mind..ect..it has helped me see some patterns forming which allows me to change some things  I may be doing that hinders my sleep.. So far it has helped...

P.S. Cynthia.. For Menopause..I found these..I have not tried them myself..I will do more research for ya kk..
