      Good afternoon,

I stumbled across this site and group while searching for resources on pet loss and grieving.  I lost my beloved golden/retreiver/lab mix LoJack last week.  We always spent Sundays together and today has been especially terrible. I know I need time to be sad and miss him but the pain this week has been so excruciating. Have any of you gone through this recently?  I’d like to share his story but I am not sure it is appropriate here. Can any of you suggest some resources to help me deal with this?

      Melissa

        • I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. My condolences to you.
I just loss my best friend Bugsy In Feb of this year. He was my cat and him and I use to hang out all the time. I miss him everyday and every second. It’s been 6 months now sence hes been gone but I will tell you, It’s hard to not think about him. Yes It gets easyer down the road, but It does take time. It’s still hard for me and I have to admit I cry myself to sleep still. Our pets become a part of our family and become a part of us and It’s hard when they pass. If you need to vent or someone to talk to, you can talk to me, I will always listen.

          (((( Hugz ))))

        • It's so hard when you lose a pet – it broke my heart when I had to have my two girls put to sleep as they were both 18 – Ruby was given to me the day I brought my daughter home from hospital they shared a pram ...... and then two years later I bought Rosie ......
They used to give me such a huge welcome and slept me and snored for Britain – they never left the bed the whole time I was ill .....
Now I have that evil child's dog (who I secretly adore)

        • im so sorry for the loss of your doggy.

This is in with my beau’s ashes

          Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

        • I lost a chocolate lab several years ago now, Pumba was his name. Losing that dog tore me up! God and I had some real deep talks about life and death.

My heart goes out to you. When you love someone, your heart doesn’t distinguish between human and animal. Grief feels the same. Loss is loss. And you came to the right place to process, as there are many here who dearly love their “People with fur“. You will find much support and encouragement.

I’m sorry for your loss. I know how special LoJack must be to you. He was fortunate to have been loved so well!

        • Melissa, I am so sorry for your loss. I went through it 14 years ago when I had to put my 13 year old dog down. To this day it is the worst thing I ever had to go through as I was the one who had to make the decision as her quality of life was declining fast. I was with her when she passed onto doggy heaven. It is not easy loosing a pet as they are part of the family. Take all the time you need to grieve. I know I was devastated loosing my baby some days I was sad and others angry. The daily routine I had with her was hard getting through the day as she was no longer there. Take one day at a time. I still miss her and have her picture on my desk. Take care and I’m sending a hug your way.
