          May 1989 - August 2001

He was first doggie when I was on my own. He was my protector and my love.
He now sits in a pretty lil urn on my mantle. I miss him every day...

She would lie with me on the bed and just purr for hours.
          I miss her so...

This was my last pic with her at the vet before they had to put her down. Her kidneys stopped working...

This is Smokey, he lived 17 years. He was loved by me and everyone because he was naturally curious—born a June Gemini. He had the ability to change someone who was afraid or disliked cats to a person who couldn’t wait to see him. Always cracking everyone up with his antics, and was there for me through life’s ups and downs. Having a human in a cat suit around for that long made him part of my family, and I miss him.

        • And, I know she’s not exactly a “pet” to some but I loved this chicken. She followed me everywhere and trusted me completely with 2 of her hatches - 9 babies each. I called her “mother.” She actually used to lay eggs in the window box right outside my kitchen window while squaking and looking at me while I was doing dishes. After she was done, she would jump off the egg and demand I feed her. She gave me lots of delicious fresh eggs!

I honestly believe that there is no coincidence that the word dog contains the exact same three letters as God. All of my dogs have enriched my life. I can not even imagine a life without them.

I’m so sorry melissa about Nikki.
I had a fiest (squirrel dog) named Margie- no pictures—and she was my companion for 13 years when we lost her. I thought I’d never stop crying, as someone once said “she’s just a dog!” my butt!! Sorry, that person is a cold-hearted .... fish. She was w/ me when noone else was then one Nov. evening my husband woke me up as I had just got out of the hospital and told me that Margie was gone, hit by a logging truck. My son and hubby took care of everything before they woke me up.
          Margie—Nov. 1993—Nov. 2006

P.S. That’s why I take so many pic.s of my babies I have now.

She was also my companion, she was w/ me inside and loved to curl up on the bed and purr until she fell asleep. I had to have her put to sleep as I knew she was not doing well w/ her breathing and after a long hard & difficult decision, I took her to her vet and he made all of her pain go away. She’s in pet heaven w/ Margie. But I still miss her, even though we have our 2 new baby dogs and Scottie, my Tuxedo cat.
They are not just pets, they are part of our family! Even my husband changed his way of thinking after we lost Margie. Now our babies are treated just like family and I take all the pictures I can. I don’t want to look back, years from now and try and remember what they looked like, when they did cute things or were playing w/ each other. They have not replaced my lost ones but just new members of the family.happy

        • Marya, I know just the poem you‘re talking about.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

          Author unknown...

Your pets are all shining with the stars in heaven.

        • Thanks Melissa. I wanted to start this group to help those of us who have lost our pets have somewhere to go for support, to share memories, pictures whatever will help. Our vet sent us a card with Rainbow Bridge after Trixy died. I had never read it before. I cried my eyes out! Owlmaria, I won’t even write the word(s) I have for people who say “it was only a cat or dog” or whatever pet has been lost. It truly angers me to hear someone say something like that. Mary I am so very sorry for the loss of your Mom. These are all wonderful stories and pictures and each of our pets we lost had a wonderful life with us and made our life better by having them in it!happy
