I think so. I have to make sure certain things get done when I am not at home. They get chores (as most children do), but I give them things to do that I would do otherwise.

My children are 9 and 7, so I’ve been starting slowly. Don’t get me wrong. I am not asking for too much - just that they help around the house a little more.

      What about you?

        • My children always got to do something new with each birthday.  They were 4 years apart...but I never gave them too much to do.  But in the boys both could cook..and can cook very well I might add...they love to grill out....they both do their own laundry...have for years....and the oldest has always been my clean he would always keep the bathrooms clean, the floors vacuumed and moped..and he would dust.  The youngest is a major slob...but he was force to empty the dishwasher on a regular basis..and try to keep his room halfway clean.  But give him a yard...and he will have it looking like a golf course.  He has his own yard maintenance business...and has for years....and he’s only 19.  So....having them do chores is not hurting them..whether you work or not. At least I know that my boys can take care of themselves....and they will make their wives very happy one day.  OH yeah...I don’t take out the trash...well I do...but..for the most part...that belongs to the men in the family.
