We were invited to a friend’s for dinner last night. They live about 1,000 feet above us and have the most incredible garden.
We started with appetizers that included salmon that our host caught himself on a trip to Alaska and then smoked. Our dinner included grilled venison that he hunted right here on Maui. The vegetables - beets, carrots, lettuce, peppers and asparagus all came out of their garden just that afternoon. For dessert we had apple crisp - with apples from their trees. Then as we left, they sent us home with a package of smoked salmon, some bananas from their trees and then some of their home grown apples.
I was in culinary heaven!
When I lived in Washington State I had fruit trees and an incredible garden. I never ever bought lettuce or vegetables. I had friends who hunted and fished so we traded meats and produce. It was wonderful.
There’s nothing in the world like feeding ourselves with food that fresh!
Oh wow! I can’t even begin to imagine the fun of growing my own bananas!!!!

WOW Choc, that does sound like heaven ummmmm good!
"As you open the door to new relationships and remove the chain from your own fears, God will overwhelm you with new splendor."
That is the best! What a wonderful opportunity to have all those luscious and fresh items.
I ate one of the apples yesterday from their tree and it was delicious. It made me miss living in Washington State a little. I had several fruit trees in the yard and a huge garden. My neighbors had gardens as well so we were always trading produce.
