      Country First????

Although I am a strong supporter of Obama, I had a certain amount of respect for McCain too...that is until he chose Sarah Palin.  That reckless choice put a lie to everything he supposedly stands for.

Country First?  I guess not.  More like McCain First.

After all, by the time she becomes President, he’ll be dead.  I guess he figures at that point, what does he care?

Condi was called horrible names, and so was Geraldine, are we going to tear our women apart ?

I remember what my grandmother told me about baby chicks.  She said if a baby chick is sick or has a bloody place on it.  The other chicks peck at the bloody place till the Chick is pecked to death and dies.  I actually watched this and I reached in to save a chick and got pecked for trying to save it.  I raised that chick that became a rooster and he was the strongest in the hen house.  I didnt let it get pecked to death as he surely would have died.

Lets not peck our women to death.

        • Im not saying we should give anyone a free pass because they are a woman, but look at the history here.

Hillary Clinton, was torn to pieces and women played a part as well as the media, so was Geraldine, Condi, and now Palin.  Nancy Pelosi is right now negociating her heart out to help bail out our economy, caused by men.  No she is not an expert, she is a house majority leader, but she has been held to the coals, because she is a woman.  I dont think that one man in congress is an expert either, but all we hear is how is Pelosi going to save our economy when her biggest decision is what jewelry matches her suit and shoes. We dont hear, that the equally level educated men only worry about shaving, eating and what tie to wear.  And by the way, most are married, have wives, maids and nannies to raise thier children.  While they are working, my bet is Pelosi, raises hers and if she had a nanny to help, is she any less different than her male counterparts ?  No.

Men are smart to pick a woman to run with or against, as they know the media and other women will tear her to pieces (over political party lines) and leave the man standing and smelling like a rose.

Im just saying, having done tons of TV interviews, there are out takes and the way a interview is cut, lighted and questioned makes all the difference.  There could be very great answers that were cut out, and there could be more to an answer that was cut.  Also, there are hard ball questions and softball questions.

Bottom, line is we women need to stop tearing our women apart, and let one of them break that glass cieling.

Unfortunately, SNL had it right, when the characters said, Hillary was close and Sara Palin was even closer.  How sad for women, that its a joke that we are trying so hard to succeed and its just a joke.

The men are laughing... listen to them... the joke is on us.

The media and others went after Sara Palin’s daughter like the greeneyedlady’s story about the baby chick.

She is a kid. Mess with my kid like that. Trust me ...you will regret it. I would not be as graceful as Palin on that issue.

        • First, let me say, I have always been a great fan of John Mccain, until now.

Regarding the “size” of Alaska, if the geographical size was what counted, the state would have more House representatives : in fact, it only has one - because it is based on population, not square acreage. The reason for that is because the Constitution clearly starts with ” We the people......” not “we the acreage” are to be represented.

With all do respect to Shopgirl1960, this argument that Sarah Palin oversees the largest state in the Union, is very intellectually dishonest and a deliberate attempt to mislead people and muddle facts. The whole state has about as many people as the city of Boston. That is fine, many mayors have run for President. But let us not try to pretend or mislead people about the entirety of it. Be honest. If you support Palin strictly for ideological reasons, that is great, but let us not start pretending that this is perfectly logical due to manipulated facts. This is starting to sound like some of Palin’s answers:
she can’t name ONE piece of news/business/political newspaper/magazine that she reads. So she falls back on a convoluted response : like the “largest state” rhetoric in the case of executive experience.

Regarding the fact that we should have a woman in high office : ABSOLUTELY !!!! But it should be a woman that does us proud. Sarah Palin is a tragedy. She sets woman back 60 years. A conservative pundit and former staff member of hers actually said on the news last night, regarding today’s debate, that if she can re-route questions so that they are about her effervescent personality instead of issues, she will do fine.  Is this the message we want to give our daughters ? Smile and look pretty ? No one needs to attack her - she implodes all by herself.

Finally, everyone gets attacked on the campaign trail. Bush shredded McCain and put out feelers that downplayed the poor man’s 6 years as a POW. This is not new or sexist. Palin
is making it sexist but trying to avoid substantive issues with her “effervescent” and “cute” personality.

        • Dont judge by two interviews, all her other interviews were really great.  Im just saying, why Peck her apart.  If we as women keep pecking apart every woman that runs for office, like we did with Hillary, and yes.. we let this happen to Hillary too.  We will never have proper representation for women in the highest office.

Alaska is a big state and a really rough terraine.  They have to get around in small cessna’s or tiny planes.

I saw on a documentary, that airplanes are lost there all the time when they go down, they are lost.

I dont think Sara Palin has a silver spoon in her mouth, and she has as much experience as Clinton when he ran for office from one of our countries poorest states at the time.

Biden stick his foot in his mouth regularly but we women are giving him an Easy Pass... ?? Why do we give him a pass on all the things he says, and not Sara Palin ??  Why cant we hold Biden to the same standards we are ripping Palin apart with ?

Its because we as women DO Expect too much out of what ever woman represents us, and until we stop, we wont advance our cause.

Cant we accept a woman that has an opportunity.. to represent women, and the causes of women.

No one man understands the cost of daycare, is as much as a house payment on a single mothers income.. its crippling which is why so many women are forced on welfare.

Lets see what Palin can do tonight.  Im not going to rush to judge her and Im not going to tear her apart, either.  Give her a chance to debate.  Every candidate has made verbal snafu’s.

I love it when Condi, a woman sits with those oil rich Saudi Princes and they have to negociate with a woman... it really must piss them off as they think so little of women, remember, the women in those countries see it too, and it gives them hope.

Im a Libertarian, and Im not for any party, I took a political test twice and Im a centrist, there are things I love about democrats and things I like about republicans, I love the free ideas of Libertarian’s.  So I think Im more Libertarian.  I vote for a person, NOT A PARTY.  Frankly I think both parties are full of Pork.  I like Obamas change ideas, but think Hillary would have been the best pick for true change.  Biden is not a change role model.  Obama is.

But I just keep hoping a woman can make a break for women.. we need it.  I was hoping Hillary, now we have a chance with Palin, right now.

Lets not cut her down before she stands up.

For some reason though, it has become unacceptable and mean-spirited to actually ask questions in order to “hire” Palin.  Someone running for such important positions need and should be grilled. The Pakistani president isn’t going to cut him/her any slack. We need competency. Therefore,  with much respect to you Veelatrice ( I REALLY  enjoyed reading your perspective ), I don’t believe in ” just voting“, I think we need to have a mentality of hiring someone capable when we vote. I adore my best friend and she is sharp as a butcher knife, but she couldn’t run this country - nor could anyone I know personally. That doesn’t make her an inferior human being, in any way.

I think that we need to be realistic and intellectually honest. If we haven’t reached that point by this time in our lives, then there is allot to worry about. But I am going to watch the debate and hope that I am wrong about Palin.

        • Palin has such a high approval rating because all Alaskans get annual hefty cash rebates, thanks to her cozy relationship with the oil companies. Her own family got $22,400 last year.

Sarah Palin is absolutely brutal when it comes to animals. She has participated in aerial wolf hunting and helped defeat its ban, despite the overwhelming majority of Alaskans wanting this cruel practice banned. It’s basically torturing an animal before killing it.

She long stated that humans had no effect on global warming, and she wants to drill in the magnificent ANR. She also has fought to have polar bears listed as threatened species.

Palin speaks well when she’s rehearsed and in front of a teleprompter. But she can’t even give a specific example of her running mate’s Congressional achievements? C‘mon!

It’s an insult to Hillary Clinton supporters that McCain thought he could appease them by selecting someone who wears skirts.

          GO Obama!

Though I did not know about her horrific animal - rights record. Really horrifying to me. Thanks ! This is not a woman who does me or my little girl proud.

And as for her popularity rating it is now slipping substantially in Alaska because of her incoherent and non-sensical tomes nationally.

Im just guessing Alaskan’s are more liberal about hunting than we are in the lower states, because it a part of Alaskan Culture.  Im not excusing any aerial hunting for sport, Im just remembering the culture of the Alaskan people.

I agree to disagree, but actually I dont disagree with any of the fabulous ladies.  I think everything written is from the heart and mind and I honor you all and agree with you all, I just want to keep an open mind, and I dont want to destroy any woman, that has struggled to get where she is.

As we all know the struggle, dont we.

I Agree, with Veelatrice, this election is going to be the greatest history in any election.  Obama or McCain.

As a centrist, and a Libertarian, Im really fine with either Candidate.  Mc Cain has suffered as a POW in Vietnam and bleed for his beloved country and Obama has come from humble beginings from a single divorced mom (I so identify with) and has become a voice for America.

America is going to show the world what we are made of no matter who is elected, the people will choose.

        • Annie, your points are well taken and you could replace Obama’s/Biden’s name with anyone in politics on your list ( McCain was horrifically part of the Keating 5 and I STILL love the man ), but unless I am mistaken, this thread is about Sarah. So let’s get down to brass tacks. Could you provide a list of Palin’s accomplishments instead ? Why does she deserve our admiration ?

Unfortunately, so many debate points are misdirected to other topics in an effort to avoid addressing them. So let’s get back to Palin.

Regarding the only point you made about Palin, Karl Rove and Fox announced yesterday that Palin was “overprepared” and that is why she flubbed ( which they admit she did very poorly ) during her interviews. But I don’t understand that.  How was she “overprepared” ?  And how did that cause her to fail so miserably that prominent Republicans are now asking her to step down?  Can one ever be “overprepared” for the highest offices in the world ? Karl Rove couldn’t explain what he meant, so I am interested in understanding this.

Regarding having an inexperienced VP over an inexperienced President, the faulty reasoning here is that Palin could easily become an inexperienced President if something happens to McCain. So if you can’t vote for Obama due to inexperience, I assume you can’t therefore vote for Palin either. Again, intellectual honesty is the bedrock of a good debate.

And now, her campaign is smearing Gwen Ifill.....Gwen Ifill -now,  there is a role model for all young and old women!  What happened to women supporting women?

Fabulous ladies, this has been wonderful so far. What a great group !!!!! Thank you !!!

And Annie, I really look forward to your informative explanation of Palin’s overpreparedness !

I wasn’t trying to say you couldn’t digress, I was just trying to get clarification and bring it back to the subject of the thread : Sarah Palin. And of course you are allowed to disagree....I am not sure where I said you or anyone else couldn’t disagree. I am going to ask that you not project things onto me that aren’t accurate. That is the decent thing to do.  I asked a question of you and made some points. For some reason, this was very offensive to you. I just believe it is unfair to defend someone by attacking another. You directly replied to comments on Palin by providing a list attacking two other people.

I appreciate greatly your explanation. It makes sense. I also have been an international public speaker, and without a teleprompter like you, I am sure! So I know about staying on point. I also know about relevancy.

And from what I understand, this is not a book in support of Obama, it is an examination of history being made : harldy a biased piece.

        • Wow. I never said, again, that you are indecent ( I asked that the exchange be decent ) nor did I purport to know you “feelings” . I re-read my posts : I never mentioned your feelings. It is unfortunate that you are so hostile and flip over a disagreement.  The very thing you say is enjoyable to you. You certainly are taking it anywhere you want to go.

I am just trying to follow the thread.

        • How many “famous” people have, or adopt kids, marry 2-3 times, enter rehab, shave their heads spiral into the black abyss and rant and rave about being green while flying around in their own personal jets and yet we support them by watching their T.V. shows buying the gossip magazines so we know every little detail of their lives, we stand in line to see the movies they make all the while helping them to become millionaires while we‘re doing it.
Oh dang, Bitch day was yesterday!!! Well I’m a little behind
Oh yeah, and I hate politics, because people can never just realize that we have very strong beliefs and just agree to disagree.

        • And THAT is why I posted my message earlier today. I DID feel that I was being .... let me say this nicely....
I felt that I HAD BETTER be prepared to defend anything I had to say. And I have to point fingers at ONE person. Sorry, I am just going to lay it out there. Again, one more person has to be ready to DEFEND themselves after they post. I just think some really just don’t know the power of their own words and how they come across.
I’m sure your a wonderful, wonderful person.... but please read your words again. They sounded “heated,” and argumentative.

        • I want to be more clear.

One person who is not allowing others to feel comfortable stating their opionions.

One person besides myself who I felt needed to defend themselves.

There is a difference between having to defend yourself, than telling another where their information, or resource came from.

        • It is interesting that you are disengaging from our debate. And the remarks I made were regarding my earlier posts, as I am sure you know.

It is also interesting that you say you love a good debate and love to disagree, but when someone asks for specifics on the claims you make, you feign outrage for being attacked instead of addressing the issue.

It saddens me that you didn’t pay any attention to the fact that I said you made some good points and that you elucidated to me the whole “overprepared” thing. I learned something from you and in return you smear me because I ask you questions.
