I love history, and I love mysteries.  Some of my favorites are by Sharon Kay Penman, who also writes historical fiction.  Her mystery series with the character Justin DeQuincy are a little bit of both.  Set in England during the reign of Richard the Lion Heart, we not only have history but we have murder and intrigue! In Justin’s stories, King Richard is imprisoned in Germany and Prince John is trying to vie for the throne. Justin, being a bastard son of a bishop, has found a new purpose in his life by being the Queen’s Man (the first book in the series): employed now by Queen Elenore, the mother of Richard and John. You really must try these books!

        • I recently read “The White Queen” by Phillipa Gregory.  I think you will like that.  It’s not a mystery, but it is set back to old English times of King Richard.  I will try to get this one from my library.  Sounds like another good read.

@sewolf0310:  I tried Phillipa Gregory once... but that was a long time ago!  Will try her again.

Some others that I like are Peter Tremayne’s Sister Fidelma mysteries (set in the 600’s AD Ireland) and the Owen Archer series by Candice Robb.
