My 4-year-old daughter knew that babies are in their mommy’s belly, and yesterday she asked how they get out of there. I try stalling a few times (in previous months), and I couldn’t think of a decent “fib” this time, so I told her the truth. When my Mom told ME the truth, a million years ago, I got upset because I was afraid my baby would come out when I was peeing in the toilet. However, MY sweet, intelligent daughter took it all in stride.

Now I have to figure a gentle way of telling her how the babies get INTO mommy’s stomach. Since I’ve been taking numerous Biology classes, I may end up using all the clinical terms and hoping she doesn’t probe too deep (which she probably will.... for instance, but WHERE does the sperm come from?) Do any of you have difficulty lying to your kids? I just can’t do it!
