I am really just beginning it. it is required reading for school. It seems like it is going to be a very good book.

        • It is actually a memoir of Jeannette Walls, who is a MSNBC journalist. It tells of how she grew up with an alcoholic father and a “free spirit” mother who hated domesticity. It tells of how Jeanette and her siblings basically took care of themselves and grew up to be prosperous,in spite of their dysfunctional family.Like I said, I am just starting the book so I really haven’t gotten into the meat of it.

        • I just finished the book and it is amazing that the kids survived much less flourished. It is so funny how when you are in a family like that the abnormal seems normal, but for people on the outside looking in, it seems so horribly unbelievable. There are moments when the kids are starving, they are digging food from the trash while their Mother sits in bed feeling sorry for herself and the Father comes home long enough to take what little money they have and go out drinking. The end of the book has a shocking surprise that makes me want to just slap the Mother. Anyway, it is good for my studies for me to have read this book.

        • Hi Jc,

Thank you! I’m going to check it out at the library today. I’m a school employee and it may help me understand the behaviors of some of our students.
