        • I do a lot of scrapbooking.  I love it.  My suggestion is to go to Michael’s, Joann’s, Hobby Lobby...if you have any of those craft places...and get stuff there...but...my rule of thumb is...I only buy it if it’s on sale.

I have bought some tools and things for scrapbooking on Ebay...but you have to know what are truly deals.

And...if you are just getting started....buy a little at a time.  Go to YouTube and seach scrapbooking videos...and  you can learn free of charge techniques...suggestions and so forth.

Before you buy any expensive machines...research it....some are not that great...

          Good luck....

        • I agree with Maryclark.  Buy a little at a time if you are just starting out.  There are some great websites to that show ideas and layouts. If you want a list I can give you some.  I have to sisters that work in scrapbooking stores basically for fun—because they have full time jobs.  The store they work at is not a chain and they do sell items you won’t find in the chain stores—but they are a little pricy!

It’s a great hobby and alot of fun. It can be a great stress relief after a long day at work!

        • It is a great hobby....and definitely alot of fun!!!  You are right marciainsacto....it is a stress reliever for me.  Some people like to read...some like to knit...crochet...crossstitch...etc...I love to scrapbook!!  I’m in my own world when I get started.

I’ll definitely do a little today since I’m off from work...but after I get that exercise  in.

If you have questions about products or tools...feel free to email.  I might not know all the answers but I can probably help you with some.

        • Sassy, I haven’t done much scrapbooking & I have bought enough to get started!!  I keep putting it off as it is a little intimadating to me.  There is a class I can sign up for at Ben Franklin’s craft store that sounds really good.  The woman who told me about the class said that it is very helpful for beginners & veterans as well. You might check something like that out where you live (Iowa? right?)
Marcia, I make cards & really enjoy it.  I have taken many classes & love seeing what others create as well. For me, I only make a few at a time & I really can get lost in the detail work.  I love going to the stamping store & can spends hours looking at all the supplies & cards others have made. Have fun creating!!

        • I scrapbook and make my own cards.  I enjoy doing both.
You can learn a lot about scrapbooking by just going to YouTube and searching videos on there.  I find that they are more helpful than at times than scrapbooking websites or local craft stores.

        • Super Gwen....glad you are enjoying the site.  I do as well.
This forum really provides all of us with a great support network that some people might not ever get just out on their own.  You definitely can learn a lot from each other.

That Youtube can show you all kinds of things..some of them that are crazy too. LOL.

Maybe we should start a section where we can show off our scrapbooking pages and cards.  I always love to see what others do.

          Back to my house cleaning.....ugh!!!

        • Great topic here!  I scrapbook and make cards with rubber stamping, and have even stamped in scrapbooks.  I just finished making an album for my son who just graduated from high school.....it included all four years in band, cub scout thru eagle scout years, graduation from h.s. and his 18th birthday party.  It came out really beautiful and I have been showing it to my girlfriends.

I buy most of my items from Michael’s Arts & Crafts.  They have a large selection of stickers, as would Ben Franklin or AC Moore, etc.  If you use a sales rep. for a company, it can be so much more expensive. I have bought many stickers (incl. letters) and accessories at WalMart and Target as well.

There is just one thing I would like to mention.  I personally think it makes a difference if the shades of colors you use match.  For example, if you use say “Sunflower Yellow” ink and “Sunflower Yellow” card stock it will all tie in beautifully.  That is one advantage of buying from someone who is a rep. for a scrapbooking company.  Their ink already perfectly should match their paper.  Its fine to use different shades as well, but there are times when I like to have the same exact color throught a card or a scrapbook page.  That is just how I am, always the first one to be critical of my work.  If you are not using ink at all then ignore this paragraph!  :)

I also use at least 60 or 65 lb. card stock, but that is for making cards mostly.  Attached are some cards I made called accordian cards.

I hope I helped you somewhat.

Good luck and enjoy the project!

          Joanne

        • I have been a consultant full time for a scrapbook/stamp company going on 12 years now. I find that many of the ladies I have classes for have shared with me that it really makes a difference in their confidence level having someone show them how to use the products they purchase. I have found that you don’t always get that when you buy things at a local store.
I am always uploading new artwork that I have created (layouts & cards) on my website. If any of you would like to see them, just click on the link below.
