Have I got a challenge for you! I’m going to be in California the first week of March and went online to find a 5K run nearby. I found the Undy 5000, a benefit run for Colon Cancer. It’s going to be in San Diego, in Point Loma on the 6th of March and I’m planning to do it.

Anyone game to go with me???? We can form a Fab40 group and run together.

There’s also a 1 mile fun run/walk for anyone not interested in the 5K but, in any event, it sounds like a fun way to spend a sunday.

        • Of course I can’t go out there to run/walk in it but I certainly can support you.  I really would love to do this because my best friend growing up...and we‘re still best friends...was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2008...had surgery and 6 months of chemo.  It was hard on her but she is doing great now.  Let me know what I can do for you from here.

        • Thanks, Mary. One of our members, Carol Urban, is also a colon cancer survivor. And I have 2 friends who went in for routine checkups just because they knew they should and they were both diagnosed with early stages of colon cancer. It’s more prevalent then many realize and hits a lot of women now.

I hope your friend continues on her journey of recovery - sounds like she caught it early.

        • I just e-mail the organizer in Washington DC to see if the 5K can be walked as well as run. And I know for sure the 1 mile is a walk or run. Either way, I know this will be a lot of fun. I’ve been to these type of events a lot through the years and the crowd is electric!

        • Mary I wanted to check our part of the world to see if there was a walk/run we could do. If you hear of one let me know!

        • I was going to suggest that members get involved in groups by the area they live in. It’s a fun way to meet other members, it’s great camaraderie and it’s all for good causes as well.

        • Vicki...I will certainly look out for that.  Wouldn’t that be neat if we could find one at the half way mark for both of us.

        • I just looked up an old 5K I did in 1997. It was the Race for the Cure in Newport Beach, CA. I came in number 78 out of 600 people in my division and ran the race at 33:29

Now I’m pumped and ready to get ready for the Undy 5000 in San Diego.  13 years later and I’m hoping just to finish.
