Ok so here it is today my off day and I have been off since yesterday. I’m lying in my bed relaxing and I get a call from one of my co-worker’s telling me that one of the residents on my unit had an incident where it resulted in them getting a large deep gash in their leg and blood was gushing out to the point even pressure wouldn’t stop it and that you could see the white meat in her leg.

Ok so the Med-Tech that was on duty who is NEVER where she is suppose to be didn't seem to care much about the poor elderly woman's leg she or the nurse, the nurse was called and informed of the incident, but she refused to allow the med-tech to send the resident out for treatment nor did she give the poor woman anything for pain so I was told, this has me so outraged to the hilt! Then they didn't want to do an incident report, which is a huge no-no by the state.

The informer called me back again to say that the bandage that was placed on the residents leg by another med tech and NOT the one on duty for the unit, it was covered with blood and needed to be changed again, but to no avail did it get changed so she called me to say that the resident was crying as if she was in pain, now with me being off my hands are tied, but I’m furious because the management team has their picks and chooses and let this particular med tech along with a few others get away with murder and give me hell.

Well after the last conversation I tried to call and speak with the med-tech who supposedly did the wrapping on her leg but, to no avail the call was intercepted by another med tech answering the phone and not the receptionist, so she played like she couldn’t connect me to the appropriate person I said ok, then she asked me who called me I told her it wasn’t important, and that it was ok. I get off the phone with her called the informer back to let her know that the med tech in question will probably come to her trying to ask if she called me, so I was giving her the heads up.

And sure enough it happened, I get another call to confirm what I said would happen, then she added that the med tech who was suppose to be on the unit hadn’t been on the unit all day pretty much only to pass meds and then she disappears and takes breaks all day while on the clock, walking around on her cell phone and out of the building. Well she decided to call the nurse, the director because she heard someone called me. So Now I’m just interested to see what will be said to me tomorrow when I show up for work lol.

It is so sad that some can and others can’t, but I just go in and try to do my job for the residents to the best of my ability and make sure they are cared for properly, but of course with me doing my job and doing it efficiently it steps on a lot of toes, but oh well and then we have a few private duty aides there who have their own residents to care for notices that things are not ran properly when I’m not there and that says a lot for me, but also alot for those who are there, but not doing their job.

My heart goes out to the poor residents when I’m not there, but I can’t control how others work, or take their jobs seriously as I do. And as far as I’m concered all of the management staff currently in place there all need to be fired along with the slackers!

        • The management certainly needs to be fired!!!!  Holy cow!!!

Unless things are far different in Michigan than here, a med tech is not qualified to bandage anything.  That is an RNs job.  Where are the nurses???

        • LOL, hi Tulip, well here in Michigan they have us do a Med-Tech training course and we have to pass an extensive test at the end of our training course which is a 6 week course, but as you said there are some things the nurse should be doing such as treatments and bandaging etc... but they leave it all up to us the Med-techs, but I am highly qualified to do my job and if I may say so I do it way better than the nurse she is a very sorry one to boot and she barely knows the residents by face or name go figure don’t know how she got her degree if it is even real. SMH!tongue out

        • Is there someone higher up that you could call?  If it was my mother and I found out this happened, heads would roll.

        • Well seeing the med tech in question called the nurse and the director to try and cover her butt the only thing I can do is wait till tomorrow and put a call to the state rep for this facility and have her come out to investigate, it is so sad how some just don’t value the lives of the elderly. And as you said if it were my parent or even me I’d want someone to care and take the necessary messures to see to it that I as well as the others got cared for properly and those slackers be reprimanded to the highest extent of the law!

        • It’s just so sad that health care, especially elder care in this country has come to this. heartbreak  It seems that so many people in health care just don’t CARE anymore.  The ones like Neicy that do care are so few and far between.  I noticed it too when my daughter was in the hospital, the nurses didn’t really care how she was doing and were so unprofessional.

        • This situation piss‘es me off to the highest of pisstivity! Seriously it is such a darn shame those in the high positions get away with their dirt while the weak suffer at their hand and yes I am an outcast at my job no one cares or go the distance like I do and this is why I’m not liked but I don’t give a rats a** I am there to care for the elderly and I will do all I can to make sure they are treated with dignity and respect.

        • Wow! I am so happy I don’t work in your kind of job anymore. 12 years of that was enough for me. More power to you my friend. Sounds like some people need to be fired. I can’t believe they even called you on your day off. Are you the supervisor?
