      True Worship

Matt. 15:8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth
me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do
worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Did you know that you can worship God in vain? Did you know that if you are
not following the commandments of God, your worship can be a farce? Many of
us have been so used to hearing that God understands our sinful lifestyle or
that God has a grace period for living in sin, that we have forgotten the
simple fact that, if we love him, we must keep his commandments! Well,
worship is an intimate act that is not just what you say about God, but how
you live before God. You see, our problem is that we have confused praise
and worship with songs that we sing about ourselves. “I love to praise his
name” or “I’m on the battlelfield” or “Praise is what i do” are nice songs,
but those are not praise and worship songs. Those types of songs are meant
to edify ourselves, not God. Because when we worship God, it’s about him not
us! When we praise God, it’s about who he is, what he’s done and what he is
capable of doing, but has nothing to do with us. Therefore, we must make
sure that we are not just giving lip service and singing or worshipping him
without truly following him. It’s an insult to God for us to sing about
ourselves in worship. There of course is a time during our church services
where we sing about how he has brought us out or who we are now that we know
him, but during the WORSHIP of God, there has to be reverence and glory
created by our admiration and adoration of him. And we can’t just sing it,
or say it. But we must live it!! We must worship him in spirit and in truth!
Spirit, meaning that he is spirit and truth, meaning that our hearts are
right before him and we desire his things!

Don’t just sing about yourself in the presence of God! Don’t even mention
yourself while you are worshipping God. But even more importantly, mean what you
say! If he is that wonderful and mighty, then serve him with your life. If
he is great and awesome, then allow him to deliver you. If he is who you say
he is in your worship, then live a lifestyle accordingly.
