The Lord Jesus has shown me that volunteering is another way of giving back to others. Especially to those that may be experiencing emotional difficulties, volunteering is a way to help yourself heal. Volunteering is good for the giver and the recipient as well. Yes it is better to give than to receive, but there also comes a time to receive from others just as we receive and accept God’s word. Through volunteering I have learned to stop complaining and murmuring, because I see people that are in worst condition than I am. I see the homeless and think, “It could have been me.” I know that the grace of God has kept me. When I have volunteered, I also see the thankfulness and the gratitude of those that I help. That is a great feeling to know that you make a difference, because we all have a purpose. It is up to us to discover our purpose and remember Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” So whether one volunteers at a church, school, hospital, or other organization, know that you are helping others and the community by doing this.
