I started having symptoms of peri menopause in 2007. By 2009 I was miserable and had gained a lot of weight. My husband’s sister in law told me that she gained 29 pounds during peri menopause but kept doing everything she had normally done - eating healthy and exercising regularly. After menopause ended, her weight dropped effortlessly. It was as if everything balanced itself out according to her.

A little over a year ago my symptoms took a break and I started running again and changed my eating habits and the weight started dropping. I steadily lost about 30 pounds, then it went to 40 and when all was said and done, the last time I got on the scale I had lost nearly 50 pounds in total. I admit this was not effortless. Losing weight was a deliberate effort on my part. But, I feel different. I still get hot flashes and still have some of the symptoms of peri menopause but I believe the worst is over. I’m starting to believe that, just as my sister in law said, everything balances out when it’s all over with.

        • That is great to hear, Cynthia!estatic  I am finding myself on a see-saw when it comes to my weight...sometimes I lose a few, sometimes I gain a few, and I had a complete hysterectomy, so maybe in time everything will even out.

        • My mom told me a couple years ago that there was no point in my trying to loose weight while I’m going thru perimenopause.  She said it’s just too hard to do, but it will come off after I’m thru with all that.  I’m glad your experience backs up what she said, because I’ve been a bit discouraged.
