I have been telling myself that I needed to measure and see what my progress has been. Life is busy, and it is much easier to use the scales rather than a tape measure. However, inches are far more honest and reliable. Scales are deceiving. Pounds fluctuate depending on time of day, how much you might retain, fluid wise, etc.
So... today I did it! I had to go back and pull another post (from another social networking group) to get my baseline. I was very pleasantly suprised.
Here is a copy of that post:
Let's post our goals here. Remember, we need to think not in pounds (which we have been trained to do) but to think in inches.

I’ll start us off. If you have already lost a significant amount of weight, you can post that for affirmation, but let’s start with a current baseline.
I currently measure: (*this was Nov 2007*)
      Neck: 14
      Chest/Bust: 38/41
      Forearm: 11 1/2
      Waist:34 pot belly area 40 - ugh!
      Hips:44 1/2
      Thigh: 22 1/2
      Calf: 14 1/2
Okay - so you can see that my issues are in the torso area. I am breastfeeding so the ‘bust’ doesn’t really count. :) I am 5‘4” and have a petite bone structure. In the past my perfect weight was 120. That would put me at a size 6/8 probably. Currently I am at a 12/14. In arm/leg areas I don’t see much need for loss.

For those who have more than 30 pounds to lose, set short term goals, and long term goals. Remember if you are losing more than 1-2% of your weight per week, you are losing more than fat. We don’t want to lose the LEAN body mass! I know I am talking in pounds again.... but I want you to understand a little bit about why. If we are losing fat, and gaining lean - our weight doesn’t change much, and we get discouraged. Make a promise to yourself that you won’t get on the scales for at least a month. IF you will implement a low glycemic way of eating, and make yourself exercise just a little everyday - you will surprise yourself! And if you want guaranteed results, I can share with you the dietary supplements I have used to obtain my goals without consitently exercising.
(Please note - exercise is important, and not something I recommend skipping out on. *I* need to practice what I preach in that area. But, just for the record I wanted to state that I did it without exercise so you’d know you can get there faster if you want to.)

My goal: (set in Nov 2007)

       Neck: 13
      Chest/Bust: 35/—
      Forearm: 10
Waist:28 pot belly area - FLAT (lol)
      Hips:38
      Thigh: 21
      Calf: 14

      Where I am now:
      Neck -12 1/4
      Chest/Bust - 35 (bra line is 31!)
Forearm - 11 (need to do some weight training)
Waist - 29, pouch -31 - almost flat, working on saggy skin
      Hips - 38
      Thigh - 20 1/2
      Calf - 12 3/4
I am pretty darn proud of myself. I am finally starting to feel comfortable in my own skin. I knew my trouble areas would be hips and waist. I am an O blood type, and have the pear shape figure. I know that if Osolean had been available in the beginning my numbers would be different. I have drastically improved the waist numbers since Sept. I only measured waist/hips when I started, but I was at 33/41 at the end of Sept.

Now, after that long diatribe - please post your goals. I think it would be better for us to each start our own goal topic. To do that go back to the group - click begin new topic, and title it  “Dee Dee’s Goals” - only put your name in there. I look forward to encouraging you and sharing in your journey.

        • Linni,
Measuring tapes are cheap - less than 2 bucks. Go get yourself one girl! :)

        • Vikki,
It helps to have that baseline, no matter how ‘ugly’ it is. Then as we start to lose, adding up the inches is a great inspiration and encouragement. Even more so than loose fitting clothes... or at least it was for me.

        • Ugh, lost my post!
After our call tonight I decided to add up the total inches lost (although I need to measure again because I know I have lost more) - Taking measurements in nine different areas netted me a total inch loss of 39.5 inches - MAN - that is over 3 feet. I lost a yard’s worth of fat. LOL

The snowball is rolling. Darla and Linni we look forward to hearing from you next week... and Cynthia - I want to hear the numbers you come up with! I am excited for all of us!
