I am gonna say, please NO Gospel/Christian because that isn’t fair, they are ALL powerful.
List the song and the lyrics. If you don’t know them, you can find them on the internet. Let’s all be inspired to listen to something that empowers us today. Maybe we’ll learn to like a new genre of music in the process!
Mine is:
Stand by Sugarland
Go ahead and take your best shot,
Let ‘er rip, give it all you’ve got,
I’m laid out on the floor, but I’ve been here before,
I may stumble, yeah I might fall,
Only human aren’t we all?
I might lose my way, but hear me when I say,
I will stand back up,
You’ll know just the moment when I’ve had enough,
Sometimes I’m afraid, and I don’t feel that tough,
But I’ll stand back up,
I’ve been beaten up and bruised,
I’ve been kicked right off my shoes,
Been down on my knees more times than you’d believe,
When the darkness tries to get me,
There’s a light that just won’t let me,
It might take my pride, and my tears may fill my eyes,
But I’ll stand back up,
I’ve weathered all these storms,
But I just turn them into wind, so I can fly,
What don’t kill you makes you stronger,
When I take my last breath,
That’s when I’ll just give up,
So, go ahead and take your best shot,
Let ‘er rip, give it all you’ve got,
You might win this round but you can’t keep me down,
‘Cause I’ll stand back up,
And you’ll know just the moment when I’ve had enough,
Sometimes I’m afraid and I don’t feel that tough,
But I’ll stand back up,
You’ll know just the moment when I’ve had enough,
Sometimes I’m afraid and I don’t feel that tough,
But I’ll stand back up.
Whitney Houston. (be back to complete the sentence)
Can’t think of it but she has a very powerful song.
Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology) Marvin Gaye. This man was ahead of his time.
Ah, mercy, mercy me,
Ah, things ain’t what they used to be, no, no.
Where did all the blue skies go?
Poison is the wind that blows from the north and south and east.
Verse 2:
Mercy, mercy me,
Ah, things ain’t what they used to be, no, no.
Oil wasted on the ocean and upon
our seas fish full of mercury,
Verse 3:
Oh, mercy, mercy me.
Ah, things ain’t what they used to be, no, no, no.
Radiation underground and in the sky;
animals and birds who live near by are dying.
Verse 4:
Oh, mercy, mercy me.
Ah, things ain’t what they used to be.
What about this over crowded land?
How much more abuse from man can she stand?
Greatest Love Of All
I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children’s laughter remind us how we used to be
Everybody’s searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to
I never found anyone to fulfill my needs
A lonely place to be
So I learned to depend on me
Chorus:
I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone’s shadow
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I’ll live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can’t take away my dignity
Because the greatest love of all
Is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all
Inside of me
The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all
I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children’s laughter remind us how we used to be
Chorus
And if by chance, that special place
That you’ve been dreaming of
Leads you to a lonely place
Find your strength in love
I had to include another prolific man that is gone too soon.
Brother Bob Marley
One Love
One love, one heart
Let’s get together and feel all right
Hear the children crying (One love)
Hear the children crying (One heart)
Sayin‘, “Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right.”
Sayin‘, “Let’s get together and feel all right.”
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
Let them all pass all their dirty remarks (One love)
There is one question I’d really love to ask (One heart)
Is there a place for the hopeless sinner
Who has hurt all mankind just to save his own?
Believe me
One love, one heart
Let’s get together and feel all right
As it was in the beginning (One love)
So shall it be in the end (One heart)
Alright, “Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right.”
“Let’s get together and feel all right.”
One more thing
Let’s get together to fight this Holy Armageddon (One love)
So when the Man comes there will be no, no doom (One song)
Have pity on those whose chances grow thinner
There ain’t no hiding place from the Father of Creation
Sayin‘, “One love, one heart
Let’s get together and feel all right.”
I’m pleading to mankind (One love)
Oh, Lord (One heart) Whoa.
“Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right.”
Let’s get together and feel all right.
Oh Oh...another one
Marvin Gaye...let’s get it on! That’s the ringtone for when my hubby is calling me! LOL
HERO by Mariah Carey
There’s a hero
If you look inside your heart
You don’t have to be afraid
Of what you are
There’s an answer
If you reach into your soul
And the sorrow that you know
Will melt away
And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you’ll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you
It’s a long road
When you face the world alone
No one reaches out a hand
For you to hold You can find love
If you search within yourself
And the emptiness you felt
Will disappear
And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you’ll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you
Lord knows
Dreams are hard to follow
But don’t let anyone
Tear them away
Hold on
There will be tomorrow
In time
You’ll find the way
And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you’ll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you
Lissa,
I have heard that song (in Spanish) before. I have a friend named Maria and when I lived in California she used to sing that song. That’s how I found out how to say Butterfly in Spanish. From that moment on, we always would greet each other by saying Hola, Mariposa!
I’m Moving by Rascal Flatts
I’ve dealt with my ghosts and I’ve faced all my demons
Finally content with a past I regret
I’ve found you find strength in your moments of weakness
For once I’m at peace with myself
I’ve been burdened with blame, trapped in the past for too long
I’m movin’ on
I’ve lived in this place and I know all the faces
Each one is different but they‘re always the same
They mean me no harm but it’s time that I face it
They’ll never allow me to change
But I never dreamed home would end up where I don’t belong
I’m movin’ on
I’m movin’ on
At last I can see life has been patiently waiting for me
And I know there’s no guarantees, but I’m not alone
There comes a time in everyone’s life
When all you can see are the years passing by
And I have made up my mind that those days are gone
I sold what I could and packed what I couldn’t
Stopped to fill up on my way out of town
I’ve loved like I should but lived like I shouldn’t
I had to lose everything to find out
Maybe forgiveness will find me somewhere down this road
I’m movin’ on
I’m movin’ on
I’m movin’ on
Inakika, beat me to it, but yesssssssssss Marvin Gaye’s mercy, mercy me, the man was way ahead of his time that song still rings very, very true today.

All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I’ve been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don’t mean anything
When you’ve got no one to tell them to
It’s true...I was made for you
I climbed across the mountain tops
Swam all across the ocean blue
I crossed all the lines and I broke all the rules
But baby I broke them all for you
Because even when I was flat broke
You made me feel like a million bucks
You do
I was made for you
You see the smile that’s on my mouth
It’s hiding the words that don’t come out
And all of my friends who think that I’m blessed
They don’t know my head is a mess
No, they don’t know who I really am
And they don’t know what
I’ve been through like you do
And I was made for you...
All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I’ve been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don’t mean anything
When you’ve got no one to tell them to
It’s true...I was made for you
Live Like You Were Dyin’ by Tim McGraw (for his dad, Tug)
Verse 1
He said I was in my early forties, with a lot of life before me
And one moment came that stopped me on a dime
I spent most of the next days, looking at the x-rays
Talking bout’ the options and talking bout’ sweet times.
I asked him when it sank in, that this might really be the real end
How’s it hit ‘cha when you get that kind of news?
Man what did ya do?
He said
Chorus
I went skydiving
I went rocky mountain climbing
I went two point seven seconds on a bull named Fu Man Chu
And I loved deeper
And I spoke sweeter
And I gave forgiveness I’d been denyin’
And he said some day I hope you get the chance
To live like you were dyin’
Verse 2
He said I was finally the husband, that most the time I wasn’t
And I became a friend, a friend would like to have
And all of a sudden goin’ fishin, wasn’t such an imposition
And I went three times that year I lost my dad
Well I finally read the good book, and I took a good long hard look
At what I’d do if I could do it all again
And then
Chorus
I went skydiving
I went rocky mountain climbing
I went two point seven seconds on a bull named Fu Man Shu
And I loved deeper
And I spoke sweeter
And I gave forgiveness I’d been denyin’
And he said some day I hope you get the chance
To live like you were dyin’
Bridge
Like tomorrow was the end
And ya got eternity to think about what to do with it
What should you do with it
What can I do with it
What would I do with it
Skydiving
I went rocky mountain climbing
I went two point seven seconds on a bull named Fu Man Chu
And man I loved deeper
And I spoke sweeter
And I watched an eagle as it was flyin’
And he said some day I hope you get the chance
To live like you were dyin’
To live like you were dyin’ (4x)
How about this one, y‘all.....
God Bless The U.S.A.
by Lee Greenwood
If tomorrow all the things were gone,
I'd worked for all my life.
And I had to start again,
with just my children and my wife.
I'd thank my lucky stars,
to be livin here today.
'Cause the flag still stands for freedom,
and they can't take that away.
And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.
From the lakes of Minnesota,
to the hills of Tennessee.
Across the plains of Texas,
From sea to shining sea.
From Detroit down to Houston,
and New York to L.A.
Well there’s pride in every American heart,
and its time we stand and say.
That I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.
And I'm proud to be and American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.
Everytime I hear this song it brings my son to mind.
But it is beautiful. I wish Boys 2 Men would record again, I miss them.
I dedicated this one to my daughter last year:
I Hope You Dance (Lee Ann Womack)
I hope you never lose your sense of wonder,
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger,
May you never take one single breath for granted,
GOD forbid love ever leave you empty handed,
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.
I hope you dance....I hope you dance.
I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance,
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Livin’ might mean takin’ chances but they‘re worth takin‘,
Lovin’ might be a mistake but it’s worth makin‘,
Don’t let some hell bent heart leave you bitter,
When you come close to sellin’ out reconsider,
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.
I hope you dance....I hope you dance.
I hope you dance....I hope you dance.
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along,
Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone.)
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.
Dance....I hope you dance.
I hope you dance....I hope you dance.
I hope you dance....I hope you dance..
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along
Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone)
Girl, my husband was singing that song one day and I kept hearing him say something different then “dance“. I asked him to sing it and he was saying “I hope you die“! WHY?
He then said he realized why his buddies were looking at him so funny when he was singing it at work. He thought it was because he can’t carry a tune. Sad!
The whispers in the morning
Of lovers sleeping tight
Are rolling by like thunder now
As I look in your eyes
I hold on to your body
And feel each move you make
Your voice is warm and tender
A love that I could not forsake
‘Cause I’m your lady
And you are my man
Whenever you reach for me
I’ll do all that I can
Lost is how I’m feeling
Lying in your arms
When the world outside’s too much to take
That all ends when I’m with you
Even though there may be times
It seems I’m far away
Never wonder where I am
‘Cause I’m always by your side
‘Cause I’m your lady
And you are my man
Whenever you reach for me
I’ll do all that I can
We‘re heading for something
Somewhere I’ve never been
Sometimes I am frightened but I’m ready to learn
Of the power of love
The sound of your heart beating
Made it clear suddenly
The feeling that I can’t go on
Is light years away
‘Cause I’m your lady
And you are my man
Whenever you reach for me
I’ll do all that I can
We‘re heading for something
Somewhere I’ve never been
Sometimes I am frightened but I’m ready to learn
Of the power of love
The power of love
The power of love
Sometimes I am frightened but I’m ready to learn
Of the power of love
The power of love

Easy. “And I Am Telling You” by Jennifer Holliday. The very first time I heard that, I was still a kid in New York and “Dreamgirls” had just opened on Broadway. I got “chills” just writing this!!!
There are many others, but that’s the ONE!!
Mine is
I’ll be there for you—Bon Jovi
I need you now—Alias
I will give everything I own—Bread
The list goes on and on. It would take up 2 pages to write the lyrics.
What a great collection of wonderful songs. I love them all.
Like Kelly, I have a list but my latest one is Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield. I love it cause it’s the view of life that I’m trying to adopt wholeheartedly....the casting off of old pains and scars and trials and looking toward the new and unexplored.
“Unwritten”
I am unwritten, can’t read my mind, I’m undefined
I’m just beginning, the pen’s in my hand, ending unplanned
Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten
Oh, oh, oh
I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines
We’ve been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can’t live that way
Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten
Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten
The rest is still unwritten
The rest is still unwritten
Oh, yeah, yeah
This has to one of the saddest songs that I know and that I have performed. When I was researching Voi lo sapete, Mama I found this performance by Fiorenza Cossotto and each time I watched it the tears would flow.
On top of the drama of the scene and the whole opera, it turns out to be based on true village lore. Santuzza is the character singing about her love Turridu. The words translated are as follows:
You know, mamma, that
Before he went off to be a soldier
Turiddu swore to Lola
To be eternally faithful
He returned to find her married;
And with a new love
He wanted to extinguish the flame
That burnt in his heart:
He loved me, I loved him.
She, envious of my happiness,
Forgotten by her husband,
Burning with jealousy,
She stole him from me.
I am left, dishonoured:
Lola and Turiddu love each other,
And I weep!
Saturday night I went to a local production of Cavaleria Rusticana and it was amazing. The Mezzo-soprano’s name was also Jeniece. (different spelling thank my name, but pronounced the same.) We both got a kick out of that. She had the most powerful voice I think I’ve ever heard. Clear full and multi-dimensional. All did a wonderful job, but she really stood out. There were lost of students in the opera from Belhaven, and Tougaloo. Commented to the director that it was probably the best I’ve seen so far in Mississippi.
My song that I think is powerful is “My Wish” Rascal Flatt,I love that song!

Let It Be! The Beatles
When I find myself in times of trouble, mother Mary comes to me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be.
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.
And when the broken hearted people living in the world agree,
there will be an answer, let it be.
For though they may be parted there is still a chance that they will see,
there will be an answer. let it be.
Let it be, let it be, .....
And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light, that shines on me,
shine until tomorrow, let it be.
I wake up to the sound of music, mother Mary comes to me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be, .....
867-5309/Jenny Lyrics
(Hey!)
Jenny, Jenny, who can I turn to?
You give me something I can hold onto.
I know you think I’m like, the others before
Who saw your name and number on the wall.
Chorus:
Jenny, I’ve got your number
I need to make you mine.
Jenny, don’t change your number
Eight six seven five three oh nine (eight six seven five three oh nine)
Eight six seven five three oh nine (eight six seven five three oh nine)
Jenny, Jenny
You‘re the girl for me
You don’t know me but you make me so happy.
I tried to call you before, but I lost nerve;
I tried my imagination, but I was disturbed.
Chorus
I got it (I got it) I got it,
I got your number on the wall.
I got it (I got it) I got it,
For a good time,
For a good time call.
Chorus
Jenny, Jenny
Who can I turn to?
For the price of a dime I can always turn to you.
Repeat until fade:
8 6 7 - 5 3 0 9 (8 6 7 - 5 3 0 9)
Couldn’t help it.....I’m being funny
I agree with Inakika, definitely the late great Marvin Gaye’s “Mercy Mercy Me”
And for a backup to that Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive”
A song from Whitney Houston... I have to come back with the name.
Those are some good songs ladies
“A Song For You”
This one is written by Leon Russell
I’ve been so many places in my life and time
I’ve sung a lot of songs I’ve made some bad rhyme
I’ve acted out my love in stages
With ten thousand people watching
But we‘re alone now and I’m singing this song for you
I know your image of me is what I hope to be
I’ve treated you unkindly but darlin’ can’t you see
There’s no one more important to me
Darlin’ can’t you please see through me
Cause we‘re alone now and I’m singing this song for you
You taught me precious secrets of the truth witholding nothing
You came out in front and I was hiding
But now I’m so much better and if my words don’t come together
Listen to the melody cause my love is in there hiding
I love you in a place where there’s no space or time
I love you for in my life you are a friend of mine
And when my life is over
Remember when we were together
We were alone and I was singing this song for you
You taught me precious secrets of the truth witholding nothing
You came out in front and I was hiding
But now I’m so much better and if my words don’t come together
Listen to the melody cause my love is in there hiding
I love you in a place where there’s no space or time
I love you for in my life you are a friend of mine
And when my life is over
Remember when we were together
We were alone and I was singing this song for you
We were alone and I was singing this song for you
