When I say I have had my fill of people in the work place I mean I have had my fill, so much to the point that yesterday I blew my top.

Ok so I’m on my unit working caring for my residents passing my meds and doing my treatments etc... several co-workers kept coming to my unit trying to gossip about certain management team members which I really care nothing about nor care to discuss their ignorance or the ignorance of those who were gossiping about them. So I’m standing at my med cart charting and signing off my passed meds and was about to give my near death paitent his breathing treatment when one of the housekeepers comes up to me and says I have something to tell you, now mind you we just had a meeting the other day with management telling us they didn’t want to see us running around from floor to floor doing nothing and visiting if we‘re not working on that unit. Also the activity director who is also part of the managment team was sitting in the activity room right where I was standing with my cart and could hear anything anyone said to me, so I look at the housekeeper and said to her I don’t care to hear anything you have to say and I walked away from her.

This silly woman, says wait!, I got something to tell you its about Holly! Now Holly is the new 26 yr. old Director and is running rapid in the place firing people. So I got so peed with her I just blurred out “Shout up!” loudly because they don’t have sense enough not to say things around certain people and I for one will not get caught up in their mess. So she got offended by my response, not that I cared at the moment, because too many of them were coming to my unit gossiping and it would look as though I would be the ring leader in their mess so I asked them all to leave my unit with their drama.

So to add more fuel to the fire of my frustration, one of the caregivers was reported by one of the residents private caregivers because when she came on to sit with the resident she found the woman in her bed totally nude and wet from head to toe and instead of the private caregiver coming to me first, she went over my head to Holly the director, so I’m getting pulled into the office along with the caregiver who had not made her rounds to check this woman. I am furious because I have told them time and time again that they better make their rounds coming in on the floor because I am not going to be the fall guy for them, so I had to tell Holly that she didn’t come to the floor on time and nor did she make her rounds.

Then on top of that!, I got pissed off at the nurse because my resident who is slowly dying was having some issues yesterday and even though he is a hospice paitent she seemed as though she didn’t care about the concerns I had for him, he was non-responsive and I had discovered he had a breakdown on his buttocks which looked to me like a stage 2 decubitus. I cleaned it treated it and covered it with gauze and then his post-ox was low, we couldn’t arouse him and she acted like oh well. It bothered me so much about her attitude towards him it made me cry I had to go off and gather myself, then I had another resident who was bleeding from the inner ear she still took her sweet time about responding to that! It was a very trying day for me, but I did what I had to do for the residents.

I had another who was sick running a temp and another trying to escape out the emergency exit doors setting off the alarms lol, but to no avail did she nor anyone else in management seem to care. I mean all day people were just running around doing nothing, but gossiping and it got the best of me I blew my top! All I want to do is go to work and do my job and not have to deal with the ignorance of those slackers who seem to get all the pats on the back for doing absolutely nothing while someone like me seems to get over looked or ridiculed for doing my job. It pees me to no end, but I do know my promotion come from above, from GOD! not man.

I just got so fed up yesterday and I really don’t care about what may be said about me after I blew my top on the housekeeper, but hopefully she and the others will get the message not to come to Memory Care Unit when I’m working it with the drama and the gossip.

        • I dont blame you. I would be very upset if everyone was running around gossiping instead of doing their jobs too! Especially in your line of work.

        • I agree with Eva, don’t get so upset that it affects your health. But a 26-year-old director? I have a feeling the housekeeper wanted to tell you that she may have had a taste of her own medicine if she’s running rampant and firing people right & left. I would have said, “I can’t deal with this now,” gesturing toward the activity director so the housekeeper could see why and walk away. I am not fond of office gossip either, but people tell me stuff all the time. It also ends there; I’ll hear it, but I don’t spread it. Sometimes gossip is good, lets you know what’s going on, because it may seem trivial at the time but could turn out to be something that will effect your position in the future.

        • Geeeeeze!  Your job is hard enough having compassion for others who really need it.  I don’t blame you for yelling at the house keeper.  She is negative energy.  The same dog that brings you a bone will take a bone.

        • Neicy....after my mother living in an assisted living facility for four years and then a nursing home specializing in alzheimers...I would be royally pissed at those other staffers and definitely pissed at the nurses for not showing anymore compassion that they did.  That is just wrong.

I don’t blame you for telling them to shut up and get off your floor.  And with the ones not making their rounds when they get there....I guess you‘re going to have to treat them like kindergartners and remind them which you shouldn’t have to do.  I would be livid.

But...as it’s been said...do not jeopardize your health for these nuts.  Breathe....and stay calm.
