      So what happens to people who lose and gain back? Why do they say it more unhealthy than never losing at all?
      First of all, your lean to fat ratio changes - for the worse. When you lose weight, it is typically half fat, half lean - that is what research has shown regardless of dieting method. We exercise to replace or build muscle while we lose, but it is still a 50/50 ratio of loss. So, for most people even after they lose weight (unless they rebuild/maintain muscle mass) they are left flabby, and with less muscle.  

      Add that to the process of toxin dumping that goes on when you lose weight. Fat cells store toxins. When you lose fat, the toxins are dumped in your body. This is why it is so important to drink lots of water and support your body with good nutrition when you are making lifestyle changes that result in fat loss. So, if you don’t flush well, you add to the oxidative stress process, age faster (ever noticed when some one loses weight really fast it makes them look older?) and are generally more unhealthy.

      When you come off your ‘diet’ because you’ve lost what you wanted to lose, or you just give up... you now need LESS calories to maintain than before (because you have less muscle). You slip back into your old eating habits. Most people aren’t designed to function on a 1500 calorie diet. You can never get the nutrition you need from that unless you are eating 100 percent raw! You begin to consume a ‘normal’ amount of calories... but that is more than you ‘new’ body needs. The fat comes back... added to the already increased ratio of fat, and viola’ - you are more unhealthy!
