Do you have a dysfunctional family? Your parents were messed up, because their parents were messed up? You and your siblings cut up, because your example seemed to be substandard; poor and far from perfect?  What hope do you have? Surely as you look through generations and see the dysfunction; the destruction and the disasters in your family; in your community and in your surroundings, you don't have a chance! You're just messed up!

There is nothing you can do about it, because it's just in your genes. Year after year; generation after generation, the same mistakes, the same patterns and the same results. It's never-ending and unstoppable. Your future is doomed for destruction and you have been set up to fail. You're just messed up!

Or is this a set up? Is this an opportunity for you to see the hand of God deliver and restore? Is this a chance for you to experience the grace and mercy; the healing and miracles of the Living God? Is this an opportunity for you to breakthrough and get through? You don't have to be stuck because someone else was stuck. You don't have to be hindered from the future, because you messed up in the past. That's what the blood of Jesus is all about. Sure we are all messed up; but don't let your past dictate your future.

I woke up this morning thinking of the twelve tribes of Israel, and where they came from. I thought about God's chosen people coming from Jacob, who tricked and deceived his father and brother, for the birthright and blessing. I thought about Jacob's sons trying to kill their brother Joseph, out of jealousy and hatred. I thought about the suffering that Joseph endured as a result of the dysfunction of his family. However, in spite of the evil works and intentions of these brothers, the 12 tribes of Israel came from this dysfunctional family. The chosen people of God came from a messed up; destructive; jealous; damaged family.

What do we get from that? The only mention of a perfect person in the Bible is Christ. Let God take your dysfunction and turn it into determination; let Him take your test and turn it into a testimony; let Him take you from being a victim to being a victor. That's what God does. Don't' be a victim of your past; don't be a casualty of your circumstances; don't trip over your stumbling blocks. Get up and get delivered from the past.

Let your Father take the stumbling blocks and create stepping stones. Let God take your pain and show you the strength that you have gained. Let God show you the purpose for your pain; the answer to your past and the solution to your problems. God will turn our mess into a miracle. You don't have a chance; except through Jesus. That's what He does...He changes us.

Don't you want to be changed?

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." 2 Corinthians 5:17
