I have recently encountered a situation that I didn’t exspect with her “lumpy” family. When we began seeing each other 7 years ago, our oldest sons were both 11 so they had lots in common and we did alot of “kid” things. Now the oldest are 18 and he has a 9 and 6 year old. Mine is 18 and I sorta feel somewhat freed up of all the maternal responsibilties and I am really not into PTA meetings, ball games and fall festivals anymore. It sounds sorta selfish but its kinda like being “out of the baby phase“. I encourage my husband to go but I feel sorta past the “kids” phase. And I can just go and do and he is always having to say “I got the boys“. I had never really given much thought until the situation presented itself and it was sorta suprising to me but have my son be 18 is so liberating for me as a parent.
