Q & A

I need help settling a debate with my hubz. He thinks it’s cheaper to use paper plates and things vs using the dishwasher.
Is it really?

    • If you’ve got a fairly new, enegry efficient dishwasher, it’s cheaper to use the dishwasher.  Besides, sending all that disposable stuff to the landfill is just irresponsible.

    • We us paper as our kids are, well pigs and ‘forget’ to wash their dishes.

Personally I prefer my dishes and the dishwasher.

    • Yes my dishwasher is 5 star energy.... and that’s what I told him.

I believe the paper thing started when I left them a letter about free rent did not include free maid service.

    • Sorry but regardless of cost can’t eat daily like I’m on a picnic also if you have spent ages preparing a nice meal then why put it on paper ........ children I can understand as they never wash, rinse or even move their plates - but grown men no

    • I recently read that it is cheaper to run a dishwasher than to hand wash dishes. At the expense of sounding preachy, I agree with Tulip. The untlimate long term cost would be an environmental expense. Last year I saw an article on old landfills. What was interesting is that landfills are so packed, that biodegradeable articles are not degrading. The researchers found newspapers from the 1960’s in intact  condition.

    • I used paper for a long time and finally said enough and picked up a bunch of cheap plates and started to use those.  to me there really is not a difference just convenience.

    • I only like to eat hot dogs on paper plates. Beyond that no meal should be enjoyed on paper. Especially when you are trying to eat healthy and don’t really enjoy ittongue out

    • No way I’d eat off paper plates every day, every meal. It would be too depressing eating alone off paper plates so I want my dishes! And it’d be too expensive for my budget.

    • Vikki, as for me and my house I will use all of my dishes and stemware as well as the silverware at my dinner table, I feel it is so tacky to use paper utensils outside of a cookout/BBQ or picnic or if you‘re having a very large crowd over for a function, if its indoors and at home I’m a table setting person I love the look of a set table and I love using all my dishes thats why I bought them, so yes the dishwasher will get used quite frequently lol.

    • Vikki my darling show this answer to your hubby ......

We are on this earth a short time so every moment should be savoured and as food is the source of life and we should savour every mouthful - a paper plate is not the way to celebrate !estatic

    • It isn’t very environmental to use paper plates. We only use them when we have cookouts and I prefer to use the heavy duty plastic ones. We have a fairly new dishwasher that senses the load using only the water it needs. Sounds like you have an energy efficient one too so I would surely use it!happy

    • I do agree with everyone, meals are to be enjoyed, I always use plates, even when dining in my backyard. I only use paper products for picnics and such... unless you are buring them in the fire place it really does add to enviormental issues, whcih is also why I favor using cloth napkins over paper ones too
