What would a “government shut-down” look like? And would it be an altogether bad thing?
What it will effect are governmental offices, small business loans and few other national government offices. There was one back in 1995 which made a lot of people upset with the government.
What gets me is that the government just seems to not get the basic fact that you can’t keep spending money that you do not have. If we keep borrowing the money from other countries to pay for what is being spent then who owns the country? Each side of the government need to understand that cuts do need to be made every where.
Passport processing would be affected so for anyone with travel plans - be aware!!
Also government museums would be closed I believe (Smithsonian, etc.)
I don’t think the congress or president should get paid a single dime until they have all this mess cleared up and even then they need a DRASTIC salary reduction. Let them work for the median working man’s income.

"As you open the door to new relationships and remove the chain from your own fears, God will overwhelm you with new splendor."
I heard Virginia Congressman Mark Warner say this morning on the radio that it’s easier to stop something from being done than to actually do it. That is so sad!!
I’m a government contractor in the DC area and I’m pretty sure if there is a shutdown, we will not be allowed on the government premises and that’s where I work!
what does this mean sorry for sounding dim - you mean the Gov are going on strike ?
Assholes! Pardon my french, Ladies, but this government is not working for us.
Cathie
okay no money - so in effect the country is bankrupt?
If you are in Government you put one hand on your heart and one on the bible and you pledge allegiance to serve the people - so you forgo pay and you work hard and you shelter and provide for the people - sorry but to be a politician in the US you have to be a millionaire so they can all forgo pay and all give back - that is the rough part of the job - not just cutting ribbons and collecting badges .......
as for not paying the military they wrote a cheque to the people with their life which can be cashed any time ....
Your right Vicki. But the government seems to not care about a damn thing. Both sides are being stubborn little two year olds.
