    • Go to the local college and take some classes on creative writing, and getting published. So far I have been writing for a magazine for 2 years and just started another magazine and the local newspaper.... but my book is still sitting waiting to have someone besides me look at it.... lol   I am working on my 8th writing class.....

    • Just do it! Start writing! I know to many people that have not achieved their goals because they don’t know where to start and never do. There are tons of authors on this site, you can contact any of them. As far as the writing part goes, start typing- its the first part and most important to get going  : ). Private message me and I will point you in the right direction to speak with an author..good luck!

    • Yes, creative writing classes are good, not only for the technical side but in my case for the support. I just published my first book. I put it up 15 years ago. I went back to college and gained some self esteem and when my daughter said Mom please try to publish it. Well I did! I don’t think I would have tried if I hadn’t received kudos from my teachers! Check it out at www.ForeverPromised.com under the featured books tab, read it and get ideas, I’m not saying I am Stephen King but I am an older woman who tried!

    • To start writing without getting in to a class...read “Writing Down the Bones: Freeing the Writer Within” by Natalie Goldberg.  Just about every unseasoned or seasoned writer has read this book or used it to get their writing juices flowing or help with writer’s block.

Create a blog at blogger...you don’t have to go public right away...use it as a journal or just open it to your friends and family to read...then when you have confidence...open it for all to see. My children have private writer’s blogs...I am using the blogs as a way to encourage them to write.  My 15 year old is writing a book for teens and my nine year has a blog on Anime Drawing for Kids...they are not live to the public...they are only for friends and family to see.  They love it because they own it...they create it...it is their work...it gives them writing confidence.

Take a college class in writing...take several...seek out writer’s forums on the web. Test your work out with other writer’s when you are able to hear the critque.  Start a writer’s group here at Fab40...there are many writers here with the same dream.

Scriptwriting and memoir writing are different...write the story first then it can be re-worked in to a script.  Most scripts are books first.

E-mail me here...I have many writer’s forums and links in my bag of tricks.

    • Just for myself I started to write my memoirs almost 3 yrs ago. I stopped when my mother died in 06‘, I seemed to have lost all thoughts and desire, also because I moved from GA to NJ and all of my stuff was in storage. I find myself only able to write a little at a time now.
I think you should go for it! Keep at it!Of course I did my writing to help me find out why I am the that I am. :o Scary! Anyway, sounds to me like you have a great forum for help and direction right here at this site.
      Best of Luck to you!!

    • You MUST listen to William Zinnser’s How to Write a Memoir on cassette. Or you could read it, but I found the tone of his voice encouraging—asking you to clarify “who are you writing this for,” coaching you through the necessary choices of “what to cut out,” how to narrow the plotline (you can’t include everything. but your writing itself will hold the clues of how to organize your material.)

best wishes. writing is the most fun, ever.
