Q & A

Since being on my weight-loss plan and trying really hard to stay on course, I’m paying more attention to the labeling and nutrition factors. I have also noticed that in most restaurants they offer mostly chocolate desserts, now being not much of a chocolate lover, I have to opt out from dessert. I read somewhere at sometime that chocolate has a lot of healthy benefits, so I guess this is one of the main reason for serving more chocolate desserts in restaurants, however I was wondering, what is it about chocolate and mainly dark chocolate that is so benefical to us?

    • Neicy...dark chocolate has some anti-oxidants in it...but don’t let that trick you into thinking it’s best.

For desserts...stick to fruit...jello.....topped with a sugar free cool whip...in fact stick to desserts that are sugar free.

Cut out all the white stuff....sugar...potatoes...rice.....pasta...
      .anything white of color.

Instead of a bake potato..eat a sweet potato...so much healthier...

But for desserts...if they offer angel food cake...it’s lower in sugar...and less calories...but if you can just skip it all together and get in the habit of not ordering...eventually you won’t miss it.  I promise!

      But I’m telling you all of this...and I’m a choco-holic...LOL

    • LOL, Mary I hardly ever have dessert after a meal from being full but there are times when I did want to and all the choices were chocolate this or that! I’m not fond of angel food cake by no means yuck!tongue out And as for all the white stuff thats what my trainer Nick told me too! So I think I can do that! I’m hearing a lot about eating sweet potatos now even as french fries, I’m going to have to try this never had them like that before and I love sweet potatos, as I do the yogurt and Jell-O he even mentioned to me about that greek Yogurt and my hubby and I saw it at the grocers yesterday but I will try it at a later date!

    • Dark chocolate has anti oxidants but you only have to eat 9 grams a day (less than an ounce) to get those benefits. It’s more “advertising” than anything really.

I like a small bowl of whole grain cereal and skim milk or soy milk for dessert.

I just got a recipe for low fat cheesecake made in muffin tins. I’ll find it and post it for you. It’s great because you can make a batch of them and freeze them individually.

    • Restaurants are good at over-feeding us, and it’s up to us to know when enough is enough. I’ve cut fried foods out of my diet as well as white rice, milk, and certain breads. 7 or 12 grain bread is the only thing I buy. As far as white sugar is concerned I still use it but not as much and have given up sodas except for an occasional ginger ale. Beware of processed foods, all those convenient frozen dinners and entrees. Portion control is the key. I rarely use my dinner plates; I use my salad plates and bowls and when I find I’m still hungry I’ll eat two of those Bliss dark chocolate pieces and I’m done. Takes a while to unlearn those bad food habits, but take baby steps in the right direction and you’ll do fine.

    • Thanks Kyah! I never did like white bread and I have been eating whole grain bread for a while now, I’m weaning myself from white rice, as well as sodas which is a killer for me lol love me some soda, but I’m doing better because I’m drinking more water in place of my sodas and my trainer told em not to do juice at all instead replace that with the fruit itself.happyheart

    • Neicy, alot of store bought fruit juices are more water & sugar than actual juice, unless you pay for the 100% juice which can be watered down. So I agree with your trainer on that one, however, juice the fruit! I have 4 juicers they‘re handy when you want to make a quick juice. They‘re a pain in the can to clean but during the summer I toss ‘em in the dishwasher. You can freeze some of those juices and thaw ‘em out the night before. Some of them clean you out if you know what I mean. heart

Google “juice recipes” and see what comes up.
