    • I need to buy a new lawn mower.  Self-propelled mowers cost about $100 more than a regular push one, but if it makes mowing easier that type may be the right one for me.

    • My son has a lawn maintenance/landscaping business.  I just asked him and he wants to know how much do you want to spend?

    • I had a self propelled push mower once.  It was ok, but I wouldn’t get another one.  I had a couple acres to mow.  The self propelled bit was slower than what I push, so the mower was always slowing me down.  And whenever I got on a slope with it, it tended to spin in the grass more than pull up the slope.

    • I’ve had self-propelled since I lived at home when I was in school and cut the grass every weekend.  My daddy bought me one and I loved it.  The ones I’ve always used have been great.

Still waiting from you to find out how much you want to spend on a lawn mower...happy

    • Well, a Craftsman push on sale is about $199 and a propelled is $299.  To me those prices are high, but if a propelled mower is smoother and will make mowing easy, I suppose I don’t have a choice.  I just want to know if I should go for the propelled one.

      Thank you for your response.

    • He said to go with a Kohler or Honda engine in the Craftsman.  Do NOT get the Briggs & Stratton engine on the Craftsman. He said to ask!   He said definitely go with self-propelled and make sure you have a good warranty.

Now this is not what we he would really recommend...his choice would be in the $600-$1200 range.  But I told him you were looking for something less expensive. He said to double check that warranty.  He said a lot of Craftsman products have lifetime warranties...so just ask.

Hope this helps...I would definitely get the self-propelled..

    • Thank you Maryclark for checking with your son.  Hmmmmmmm my old broken one is a Briggs & Stratton engine and I hated it. $600-$1200 is too high for my budget.  I’ll check with Sears and inquire about the warranty.

      Thanks Tuliplady for your advice.

    • Melissa..if you are going down a hill...just let off the lever that puts the self-propelled into action and let it roll down the hill...and when I’m going around trees or tight quarters..I just give it a good manual push!  I love self-propel...

    • My friend has a riding mower and she swears by it, of course, they are really pricey and you need flat land...thanks for info, Mary, as I really need a new mower and one with a bag to catch the clippings.
