Q & A

Here’s another question :)

I don’t know if anyone remembers the store called Gemco? This was back in the days when I was in junior high. It was like a Target.

What store did your parents go shopping at all the time? Whats that one place where you would go to get all your needs back in the days.

    • Gemco was the place my mom and I would always go to do our shopping. Thats where she bought my school clothes, school supplies, our household needs and our groceries all in one place. I guess it was like Target is now today. You can find everything and now Target even has a grocery department, so that reminded me of Gemco.happy

    • I don’t remember having to need a membership card and I don’t recall my mom buying things in bulk...lol, It was just a regular grocery department at our Gemco. I just know we did all our shopping in one place instead of going all over town.happy

@Eva, there are so many stores way back when. I never heard of any of your stores you mentioned..lol

I do know we had a super market called Alphabeta, and Safeway. Then there was The Broadway and Orbach’s before Macy’s came along.happy

    • I guess I grew up in a different world.  We did all our shopping at little locally owned stores.  If the hardware store or the grocery store in town didn’t have what we needed, we’d drive twenty miles to the next nearest town.  For major stocking up and school shopping we got to go to the big town, but mostly still shopped at little locally owned stores on main street.  I think we did go to Shopko for school supplies.

    • I haven’t heard of any of the ones mentioned, I grew up in a small town, no stores, the next town over had a few small stores. Can’t remember any names.

    • We did not go to one store, but mainly Hinks or Macy’s for department stores, Lord-n-Taylor too. Safeway for food and Walgreens

    • Coming from Buffalo, NY we had local places...Adam, Meldrum and Anderson or AMA’s as everyone knew it for clothing, furniture, home decor, just about everything.

As far as groceries we had Tops, Super Duper are the ones I remember.  We also had lots of little stores along our main street and Woolworths was also still around for school supplies, little trinkets, etc.  Our little store up at the corner had a huge candy section.happy
