The weather here is lovely, it’s about 65 but a little rainy. estatic

    • I’m making shortbread cookies for my granddaughter right now. We’ve opened presents, just Joe and I, and we’ll have his daughter and grandbaby open theirs when they get here for breakfast.

He’s cooking! He’s making fried rice, eggs, sausage, who knows what else. Then we’ll have the cookies for dessert.

We ate before the Queens speech and then watched her on the television and had a toast to Queen and country and the coming year.
My nieces have run wild at my sisters and my daughter is now watching ET for the millionth time and everyone is stuffed and sitting on the sofa eating chocolate ....it's 7pm here in the UK and it's cold and dark outside.

Hope your all having a very merry Christmas in the States .............

    • Your day sounds wonderful, Vicki. I bet Christmas in the UK is a very special experience. It sounds wonderful!

Ingrid, your pecan pie sounds delicious! That was my dad’s favorite along with rhubarb. He was, however the only one who liked rhubarb so my mom made him pecan.

I got this shortbread recipe off the internet. It’s the one they use at Hearst Castle so I was curious. It’s delicious! The cookies come out so delicate.

    • My horoscope for today:  ARIES Today is perfect for socializing, especially with folks from out of town or those you don’t know well. You are perfectly gregarious and should feel energized by your interactions with people.

Hee hee, so put up with me... I am here there everywhere on this site today - I now have an excuse.

Also what does the word “gregarious” mean?

    • This is the pound cake I made and the pecan pies. The top of the pie is sugar so it crumbles when you cut it. It’s a buttermilk pecan pie, so it forms a custard inside.

    • So far all is well. The flu, knock wood, has left us. The weather is very very windy and cold!

For breakfast we all had a marvelous cream cheese pie that was made by my daughters bff (12). It had fresh cherries on top and omg yummy, then we had homemade pumpkin bread from our neighbor. I also indulged in my morning coffe with cinnamon apple creamer.

I think we are all going to explode.

In a few hours we will be having a roast with scalloped potatos, corn medley, green bean casserole, and rolls. Then hot apple pie with vanilla ice cream.

We also will be watching Christmas movies all day. Looove my Christmas movies!! lol

    • shoes4eva I’m sorry your stuck in an airport. I decided to drive to NY instead of fly and I’m so glad I did.  Folks are stuck in airports up and down the east and southeast coast due to the weather.

My family made waffles from scratch with bacon and eggs with cheese. My daughter decided to reheat 10 whitecastle cheese burgers and have that instead. Yuch!  How do the young stomach such a diet and yet my daughter is still a size 2.

    • Merry Christmas, this christmas was very different that any we’ve ever had before. Don’t get me wrong, it was great. We enjoyed good food and spent the day with our children.
The only difference this year was that we were unable to buy gifts for our children. They are older and seemed to understand, but it was not very easy for me.
The day is almost over now, I have laughed and I have cried, but all in all we had a great time.
For the first time in many years, I longed to hear the words....mommy please let us open just one gift! They didn’t ask this year for they knew there were none.
We truly celebrated the birthday of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
I wish you all health and happiness in the year to come.
      Lisa

I think it is a good lesson, especially for your kids.  They will learn materials are a good way to express our love to each other, and it’s not the ONLY way though.  If you a have puzzle or board game, try to play together.  Some family times worth a million presents.

    • Late yesterday afternoon...we went to our Christmas Eve service.  It was awesome.  Had a steak, bake potato, Olive Garden salad, breadsticks for our Christmas Eve dinner..it was yummy.

This morning we opened up our gifts (hubby and sons)...then went to my MIL’s house for breakfast.  I made “CROCKPOT GRITS“....they were to die for!!  The kids exchanged gifts....we laughed and had a great time.  I then visited my mother in the nursing home.  She didn’t eat hardly any lunch...which is part of the disease.  It’s sad.  I then came home and was going to take a nap but ended up working on some pictures to be developed.  Had dinner...fried turkey, brown rice, mac & cheese, green beans...rolls...it was okay.
And then visited with my sister across the street.

The weather has been gross.  Humid, warm, and a misty rain ALL DAY LONG.  And this past weekend we had very cold temps.  Why couldn’t it wait for Christmas?
Overall:  it was a good day.
