    • yes
He humiliated her for years and got away with it and also he has been in the public eye and doing this must have given him a thrill - so she should get half at least

    • Especially after he took public office she couldn’t work as a reporter.

Besides to me it’s not about the money. Any other hubz would have to pay so why should he be let off?

    • I do think he should be held responsible for spousal support. She did give up her job when he took office as governor here in California.

    • I didn’t read the article, but this is a big pet peeve of mine.  I don’t believe in alimony or spousal support or whatever they are calling it these days.

We are all adults we shouldn’t need some other person to support us.

I also believe that marital property should be divided up half and half, but ONLY that which was accumulated during the marriage.

    • TL..to a degree I agree with you...but the way I look at it is...she invested all those years in a union.  She gave up a career for HIM...he screwed up (literally)..went against the vows they took...therefore she should be compensated.

Now when one of the partners just wants out and there is no “screwing around“...then I say no! Divide what was accumulated during the marriage 50/50.  What was his before the union goes to him and what was hers before the union goes to her.

    • Right MC!

I wasn’t eligible for spousal support when I divorced my 1st hubz. However I did have his 2 children and I believe he should have paid half of all their expenses. And even if I was eligible for support I don’t know if I would have taken it unless I did quit my outside job to be a full time homemaker.

    • heart the same laws that apply for all other divorces should be applied here. This couple is no different from the thousands of others that have gone through this well there is one I’m sorry they are in the public eye. Other than that this is the same story of a thousand other woman that their husbands have cheated on. Even though I feel bad for her I’m not caring.
California ( if that’s where they filed I’m not sure ) but if they did it’s a joint state.
And if I were her I’d take whatever I could just to end the plubisity of it all.
Only so much money a person needs and she has more than enough.

    • Well, I guess some feel I don’t deserve anything from the X though I’m the one losing my home and due to health, I can’t work. There’s not millions involved here, but the X was successful in screwing me over.

I hope none of you find yourselves in the middle of a divorce, but it you do, you may see it differently when it’s yourself that has contributed a great many years of your life to your marriage.

    • I’m sorry. When I went thru my divorce I just wanted out and my son. I guess I just feel why shouldn’t he have to and to end the humiliation of it so public I’d just take what I could get and run. I’d be happy that’s the best revenge she can have on him.  He’s a little man inside and will never be happy. It’s the best for her.
      If that makes sence

    • Yes he should pay. I know Maria can take care of herself. I look at the spousal support as a punishment for him. He should give her something.

    • Sure make him pay, why not?  He has the bread, let him butter it too and whether she can take care of herself financially or not is not the issue, he screwed up and she deserves compensation.

    • IMO, Arnold should pay spousal support only if Maria’s lifestyle will suffer.  Also, being that she did forego her career, Arnold should pay a lump sum equal to what she could have made over the years they were married.

Of course, he should also pay 51% of any and all costs incurred in the rearing of his children.

I read something about one of their kids being in the hospital, the 13 year old. Hope he’s okay.
