    • 40yearsyoung I would only suggest professional coloring. I would never attempt to make any change but oh so subtle with a do it yourself kit. I know others on here will disagree but that would be my PROFESSIONAL opinion estatic

    • As someone who has had more hair colors than Joan Rivers has had facelifts, let me say this...

Anytime you are talking about lightening hair to any noticeable level, you need to use a bleach product which weakens the hair shaft greatly. Even using conditioner religiously after you color is not enough to repair the damage bleach causes. If you use any other processes (perms, relaxers, etc.) in your hair the damage can just get worse.

Have you thought about other colors? Maybe enhancing your natural tone? My hair is naturally a light brown, and a couple of years ago I had plum highlights put in and the result was great. What’s better is that because it was a dye and not a bleach, my hair didn’t get drier than it already is and it made my naturally boring brown hair look lighter.

I’ve gone back to lighter blonde again now but may end up putting the plum highlights in again soon since my hair has become almost uncombable due to dryness.

    • I only use non permanent hair colors where it is done professional or not. I also face the issue of insuring that my hair does not break off. Clairol has a good rinse that is just a rinse, not semi permanent but just a rinse that I have had a good experience with. It also covers gray well too. You have to purchase it at a beauty supply store too.
