Do we have a language barrier with our friends across the pond? While watching re-runs of
candid camera, there was a segment on traslation from british to english. Some thoughtful words.(do you know what they mean?)“I left my specs and brolley in the boot,it’s a rather great brolley!” Or what’s this? “I need to go to the ironmonger for a vaccume” Or,“I want a cuppa and crisps quickly!” What was especially funny was the young man asked by an stranger on the street to help translate from british to english. The guy tried by repeating what the lady from Britin was saying as if it was common knowledge. He did figure out cuppa was coffee or tea as in a cuppa coffee. See if you can figure out the rest. No fair UK girl, we know you have the answers being bi-lingual and all LOL! Connie
First off it’s the Mother tongue so remember this as in we came first !
okay one at a time:
“I left my specs and brolley in the boot,it's a rather great brolley!
I left my glasses and umbrella in the trunk of the car
"I need to go to the ironmonger for a vaccume"
Ironmonger is where they sell Hoover vacuum cleaners and all stuff like brushes , mops etc
"I want a cuppa and crisps quickly!"
I want a cup of tea (not coffee) and crisps as in potato crisps or chips in a packet !

L O L I LOVE it!! I did know the answers cuz they gave them during the show. How FUN! You‘re the greatest Vicki. made my day! Hope I was able to give you a laugh. Please remember you‘re loved. Connie
I would never have gotten brolley. The rest of them I knew.
I work with an old Scots woman one morning a week and I know the words she’s saying, but her accent makes it so hard to understand her, and she’s lived here for 30 years!
