Q & A

How many times have you walked out of a store lately with nothing in your hands? I seem to be doing that more and more often.

I think a lot of the time it's because they forget about us ...... to say that our generation makes up a huge chunk of the population I always feel we are an after thought ...

So clothes are too young – too old or just frumpy .......plus as you get older you know your own style so you don't want to buy for buyings sake !

    • I do it a lot. I just don’t feel the need to buy more “stuff.” I’m getting much more choosy about what I buy and also where it comes from and who I’m supporting with my purchases.

    • I find it is simply that I just don’t like the clothes that are out there. I don’t like the material or the style.

    • Yes! Just like Vickiday stated, I find the clothes out there are more appropriate for my daughter than for someone that is 41 years old. If they are not too young, they are too old! I am just not ready to start wearing clothes that remind me of my mom’s clothes...

I also find that I get stuck in a rut. How many black tops can a person buy?...

    • I don’t even go into stores unless I’m going for something specific. Even then I still sometimes come out empty handed because the stores don’t have what I want or the quality I’m looking for.

    • I used to love to shop to find “the bargain.”  Do you know how much STUFF that I don’t want or need because of this?  I’m sure I am not the only person who has this problem!  I am stopping...streamlining...getting rid of STUFF I don’t use (getting rid of the the thoughts...maybe I will need that someday!).  I already have 1/4 of my garage pilled with STUFF for goodwill pickup.  This is my process for 2009.  I only went to Kohls and Target the day after Christmas (this is HUGE for me!!!) I am being more picky like Chocolatier.  Instead of shopping...I’m going to be getting stuff done around the house that really needs to be done.  This almost sounds like a NY resolution!! I need Oprah’s clean sweep crew to come MY way!

    • Maybe we should have two groups one called :

Bin the junk - truthfully you know you’ll never use it.

Second - own up how many black tops and trousers do you have !

I could say 11 black tops in different combos - long sleeve - short sleeve - sleeveless ... trousers 15 all different sizes due to fluctuating weight .so fat pants - slim pants ...why !

My friend has a great idea about two years ago the week between Christmas and New Year she goes through each room and checks stuff and if she put a spot on it last year and it’s not been used she junks it and if she sees something that hasn’t been used in a while she spots it ... has she regretted getting rid of anything no ... is her house clutter free yes - has she more money in her bank - yes

    • oooh, then maybe i shouldn’t mention that while i’m supposed to be asleep now, i’m actually shopping online at the “Avenue’s” $10 sale.  i rarely go to the stores these days (too much hassle, not enough selection, too expensive), and i’ve very rarely been disappointed when i shop online.  maybe you ladies can try that, that way, it’s like getting a “present” whenever you get a delivery of online purchased items happy

    • I have quite a few black tops.  I like wearing them....they look good on me and they make me look smaller.  And I’m all for that these days.  Black pants....wear them almost everyday but with a different top or jacket.  Of course not the same pair everyday.

I too do not like a lot of the clothes out there...but where I find the best looking clothes that are not too trendy but fashionable is Steinmart.  I love the store and I’m going there today!!!

But I too have found myself walking out of stores empty handed.  Unless I really really need it...what’s the point of getting it?  I’m trying to clear out “STUFF” now!!

    • Well my closet is mainly black. How many of you have stylists that don’t wear black? Since I have only worked in the salon world my closet is about 98% black. Black pants, skirts, shirts, sweaters, cami’s you name it.
As for shopping and coming home empty handed...Yep! I am finding it harder to find clothes that I like and would spend the money on.
So I spend more time shopping at home good stores to find things for my home.....
