I was dating a man for 4 months and he become physically abusive with me after an argument two months into the relationship,i.e. he put me into a choke hold, restrained me on the sofa, bruising my arms and right hand, in addition to pushing me and head butting me causing a concussion. He claimed that he had never abused any woman before and he said he did this to me, because I was so angry and was cursing. I was mad, as he had been verbally abusing the night before and treating me poorly in general, but I never physically attacked him during my angry episode. Since then I decided to not deal with him, as the relationship is unhealthy and his past relationships were bad in addition to being a long time, serious alcoholic. He also broke one of my apt windows in a drunken rage. He recently tried to talk me into going back with him and said he was going to get help for his addiction, but I am very wary. I have been in one abusive relationship before and know the signs and am wondering if this guy is yet another abuser. It is hard to accept. What do you think?
Let’s see..choke hold, bruises, head butting, concussion, serious alcoholic, broken window in a drunken rage, history of bad relationships and your asking if he sounds like an abuser because it is hard to “accept“?

Are you stuck on stupid!!? Not meaning any harm in my statement, but this guy means you no good if you‘re out stay out! Why would you want to spend you life with someone who has already diplayed his anger by abusing you and if allowed it will happen again and who’s to say you’ll walk away the next time? So in my opinion I’d steer clear away from him, move on your life depends on it.

Being in an abusive relationship in the past, I say don’t let him back into your life!
They always apologize and say they have changed but that is only temporary.

Not only is he an abuser, but honestly you will be in serious danger if you allow him back into your life..also, not to scare you, but there are men who won’t let a woman go, so be PREPARED, change your locks (if he had a key) change your phone number, change your address even if you need to...do what you need to keep yourself SAFE!
P.S. Get the police involved if need be and go to a shelter if warranted. Please STAY SAFE!!

When in doubt, kick him out. You deserve better than that and keep telling yourself this.

I appreciate the answers. No I am not offended by the word stupid, as I realize it is pretty stupid to keep doing the same thing and getting the same result. I am in therapy and a couple of groups and doing my best to heal this. I did grow up and was abused sexually and physically,therefore I believe this has a lot to do with my poor choice of men. I see my father in almost all of them. I at least have not spoken or seen him in sixteen years. It is funny how you can know all of this intellectually, but emotionally you have to work so hard to break a pattern of attracting abusive men! This guy is really messed up and he is actually probably going to die from drinking anyway.
