Hello, if you are friends with Louisa Rodas and want to update [Link Removed] about how she is doing, it would be appreciated.
Or you can contact me directly at [Link Removed]
Below is the news article surrounding the incident:
Shooting victim is in critical condition
(by K. Darius Amos - December 25, 2008)
A 41-year-old Hackensack woman was clinging to life at press deadline after she was shot in the face by her brother-in-law during an altercation in Lodi last Tuesday. Louisa Rodas was caring for her terminally-ill sister when authorities said George Hartwig shot her.
Rodas remained in critical condition at Hackensack University Medical Center Sunday morning. The gunshot wound reportedly injured the right side of Rodas' face, taking out her eye, ear and a portion of her skull.
Hartwig, 40, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, and pleaded not guilty to that and other charges during his arraignment in front of Superior Court Judge Harry G. Carroll last Thursday. Carroll also ordered Hartwig to avoid contact with his wife, Denise Richardson, and other family members.
He remains in the Bergen County Jail on $1 million bail.
The investigation launched by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office revealed that Hartwig and his wife were engaged in a domestic dispute at their Lodi home Dec. 16. Prosecutor John Molinelli said Hartwig was then banished from the home by his mother-in-law, who was also at their residence.
Hartwig allegedly returned to the home in evening with a loaded shotgun and began arguing with Rodas. During the dispute, Rodas called her son and brother before Hartwig shot her in the head.
Richardson immediately called 911 and the Lodi Police Department, and Mark and Tom Richardson arrived and held Hartwig on the ground until authorities responded.
Rodas had been taking care of Richardson, who is stricken to her home with cancer. Richardson, according to her mother who spoke with reporters after last week's arraignment in Hackensack, also suffered from Hartwig's physical and emotional abuse for many years.
In addition to attempted murder, Hartwig was also charged with three counts of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes and possession of a prohibited weapon.
Oh my gosh!!! I am in absolute shock! May the Lord watch over her and keep her in his loving arms.

I am not but a close friend is in Neptune. Is there any way we can assist? I am praying for you.
i was just thinking that if anyone is close enough that they could stop in and let the family know that we received their message and are praying with and for them. i don’t know if CD or PUMA have the family’s telephone number so that we may call or set up a time to visit or something. sometimes just knowing that enough people care and are willing to do something makes the difference between recovering and not.
This is very distressing – the poor family are in my thoughts and prayers ...
I don’t have their phone # and the email addresses are listed here or on their profiles. That’s all I know.
I sent out an email to the mother and waiting for an reply. Let's just hang tight. We don't know if they allow visitors. Once I know more, I will post. Thank you. We are such a __ bunch (fill in your own blank, I am speechless right now!)
OMG....that is terrible news!! I can only imagine what that family is going through right now. My thoughts and prayers are with them.
An email I just received from dailypuma:
Hi China Doll, I run DailyPUMA from the west coast and Louisa's mother has a blog that appears on DailyPUMA. I don't get that many notifications actually as Louisa's mother, "Betty Jean Kling", may spend 12 hours or more at a time at the hospital.
Betty Jean's email address is [Link Removed]
Thank you for caring.
Chinadoll: Can I have your permission to post your answer to me?
Sure, please past that email on, Betty Jean actually left it on the topic that was started on this site.
The topic that was started on fabulously40 may prove very beneficial later on when Louisa recovers and can read them back.
I suggest if anyone wants to email Betty Jean, please refer Fabulously40 somewhere on your subject line.
I didn’t know if anyone had seen this link ?

it has updates from her mother etc; a very sad story poor woman about to lose one daughter to cancer and the second ill in hospital because of domestic violence - just awful my heart goes out to her.
okay vicki, that story almost drove me back into a shell. that was almost too much to take. we've gotta do something if the authorities won't, but i don't know what. i'm a child of domestic violence, so i know it too well and the long-term effects it can have on a person. Ladies, what can we do to help get this law in place? it took the death of a child to get Megan's Law enacted; let's not let it get that far for Louisa. anyone? PLEASE, let's not let this fade into "well someone else will do something." if you know some way to get things moving more quickly, please say something, act, but just don't sit there, PLEASE!!!!!
Someone has to tell me what to do. I don’t know much about the laws here. If someone tells me to send a pre-written letter to Hillary or to my congressman, I will do. Let me know.
Meanwhile, from this site, I wonder if we should do something to her family other than prayers. She is a member and if her mother wrote on her profile, I think this site has placed an important value in her heart and on her computer.
Psalmist I’m sorry about that but I’ve just listened to her mother on a radio show and I’m sat here sobbing - first Louisa sounds like one hell of an awesome woman – listen to her mother talk about what she does – she is just amazing.
But also how domestic violence has over shadowed their lives due to her sister's husband – it's unbearable ....so here we are a site full of feisty – strong women why don't we do something – everything has to start somewhere – I don't know how you change the in the US but I'm sure making a footing with the site will be a strong foundation for change ........
So what do we do ..... lets get busy !
Flowers? Cards? Balloons? We each light a candle and take a picture and post here? I am thinking and help me.
I can’t shake the overwhelming sadness I feel for Louisa.
When I came back to read about her again because I knew I probably missed most of it through shock, tears resurfaced and I cannot stop thinking about her.
Do you think there is some movements or existing action resulted from this already? If we can find out, perhaps we can join with that group. I need to google more.
I did a google on Louisa and her profile shows up in Google. What is this telling us? Dear Lord, help us to come up with something to help her and end domestic violence! I humbly pray!

I’ve found this and I’m going to do the letters and faxes and I hope we can all join in this ...

From BJ, the mother:
Ok - let's start from here- I have two daughters near death both vitims of 23 years of violence that we did not know how to stop!
We need to stop it now so these statistics begin to change. Only we can affect the future. Are we ready? I am a mother - will you wait till it happens closer to home or has it already? I'll stand with you and together we will stand with her and we ewill stand eith them till we win! Louisa's law!

Vicki and others, please help me. I checked onto PUMA site, it seems political oriented rather. Was I wrong? Also if you find any pre-printed letter or need any collective actions, please let me know. I want to be part of that to help out. Thank you kindly.

I also love how newspapers turn the truth around. For all those who are praying thank you and continue your prayers to speed recovery and for her 2 son’s.I do not wish death on anyone but George does not deserve to be breathing walking or talking.

the short end of the stick!
Ladies - I am touched by all of you - I am BJ - You are all wonderful—so wondderful.

I am writing a book of wome’s stories to document inequality to get equality . This violence serves to prove what I have been working to stop my entire life . My daughters have been paying with their very lives as have many other women and this must stop.

Look at our banner and visualize what I was thinking. The blossoms are feminine and show our lovely soft side, the lady in the center holds our flame high and stands for the liberty for US the country and US the women who strive to be free and now is for the time that has come to stand tall and strong and make it happen.
At the end of last December I had this idea that together our time had come to launch a women’s movement and change the course of America and how we conduct politics in America. I thought our time had come. 52% of the population deserves equality and representation. I also think we deserve an Equal Rights Amendment- most folks do not know we do not have one.
I saw a stellar woman candidate and I knew in my heart that we should help her and then with her as president and along with her help we would finally take our rightful place in this country. I set out to ask women to document inequality and demand equality.
Well we certainly did not have to work hard to document inequality did we? Hillary - followed by Sarah demonstrated all to clearly just how poorly we are regarded in this country and instead of making strides we fell into a pit of snakes and are in worse shape then when we started out. Instead of a women leader - we have women treated worse than they have ever been treated.
Our government - media, and other women seem to hardly notice the most blatant of all sexism and misogyny every displayed. To top it all off when we mention it we are ridiculed and laughed at.
Well - be not dismayed- we have only just begun to fight! 2008 was the awakening- 2009 will be the rebellion! If it is a war they want - it is a war they will get! Hell hath no fury like a few million women scorned—let alone laughed at to boot.
